Larger map below.    Its not really that important though... there is huge pattern change coming and runs will be wildly different.     This is not going to be a stable situation in the model world like we have seen for the last month or so.

No way that map verifies. It never snows here before the solstice anymore. 😢

During the winter of 2017-2018 in mid Jan, Mobile Alabama had more snow than South Lake Tahoe for the season. 3" versus 1.5"

Seems awfully familiar.

That winter was trollsauce. It was puking snow over the Gulf of Mexico before we even had our first flake.

Then a big daddy blizzard nuked NYC/New England while giving us < 1”, which blew away in 5 minutes of ferocious downslope wind that ripped our gutter off.

Didn’t have a legit snowstorm until March 18th. Then a few weeks later it was summer. 🤮

In other news the 12z GFS has a somewhat improved wave field over the NPAC vs 0z/06z. But nothing like yesterday’s 12z/18z runs.

Depends on work, but yeah I want to move somewhere north and/or west of here.

That’s assuming the gf approves, of course. 😬

FWIW, Dr. Roundy’s filtered tropical forcing analogs still appear to favor mid-December for a colder pattern with arctic potential in the PNW.

Sometimes guidance rushes these pattern changes.

The last couple runs of the Gem have been so wet it's not even funny. They show 25-35" throughout the Washington Cascades/Olympics and 5-10" throughout the lowlands during the next 10 days. Obviously it usually overdoes precip, but even half that which is what the Euro shows will be damaging

I've said since the beginning that I think the models are rushing things a bit. They have a tendency to do that with these big pattern changes. I still think the 2nd full week of December is when we start to see some action developing. Right around the 15th or so. Remaining committed to that.

Until then I fully expect models to tease good things every now and again only to take it away the next run. Also expect this forum will be going through the ringer following the ups and downs of model riding, along with more of Andrew's "devastating trends" and "will we ever see snow again" and "winter cancel" trolling posts.

windshield wiper effect.  use to that from Hurricane model riding on the east coast.

We got all of our snow that March as well. 102" in March and that was it for the winter.
