Yeah... daylight is short no matter what we do with the clock.    If we didn't change the time then it would be light until 5:30 during the depth of winter.     Its a trade off... but I think I would prefer the longer daylight in the evening which is what WA voted to do pending the rest of the western states and BC agreeing.

Oregon has passed it too.

I think they're waiting for the federal gov to sign off on it at this point. I read a really interesting article recently that goes into how much of a mess it is trying to get this passed. I really hope they get it done soon, i think it would really make winter here a lot better personally. No fun having the sun down at 4:15.

https://www.kiro7.com/news/local/washington-looks-alternative-paths-end-years-long-wait-permanent-daylight-saving-time/W56DBUN7JJBNTDLZYPPADNMPEE/

I think the darkness in the morning for school kids is a big argument for having standard time in the winter.  I also happen to like it just the way it is.

Our sunset is before 4pm in early December. Abolish standard time.

Our sunrise would be after 9am from mid December through mid January if we stayed in Daylight Saving Time year-around. Today's sunrise of 8:11am was bad enough.

I'm up at 6-6:30am everyday and I think I would lose my mind if the sun didn't come up for another 2.5-3 hours!

SEA had a gust of 32mph this morning. Pretty amazing because it felt like it’s gusted at least 30mph everyday there for the past 2 weeks.

Obviously this isn’t true but it’s been quite common. Fall weather!

12Z EPS... coldest air mass of the run is right now.    Might be time for the eastern half of the country to turn cold.

I like both the time changes and what they mean for each season. I like the extra light in the Spring, Summer with renewed warmth, and I like it becoming darker sooner in the Fall and early Winter signaling the Holiday season and hopefully Cold and SNOW!!!! I don't want either changed and it was never an issue before. No one I know cared that much about it growing up not until the complainers on social media to be honest.

They have had a lot of windy days.  The peak so far being 49 from that storm a week or so back.  I'm sure they have gone over 30 on well over half the days in the past couple of weeks.

It would be a bummer when people's Christmas lights are up.  It would be an hour later before the lights really show up.

At this point all of the long range models / ensembles favor a cold January this winter.  In fact show it being the most likely month to be colder than normal.  Could it be?  I still think December has a great chance as well.

My wife and I were talking about whether we would actually want to see a winter like 1949-50 or 1968-69 up here. Someone posted a few pics from January 1969 in our community Facebook, and we can't decide whether it would be fun or miserable. Snow depth up here peaked about 4-5' in January 1969.

It's amazing how much more frequently we used to get hit with legitimate arctic air. We had torchy months too. January 1925 was a total torch following the huge December 1924 blast. December 1922 had a really impressive cold snap too, a good event at the end of 1927. Major anafront snow in December 1928. Some really good December events in the 20s... Not to mention the good January ones like 1922, 1924, 1927, 1928, 1929.

Just amazing how much more common good events were, even Salem was doing that well I'm sure Seattle - North had some amazing events that didn't even penetrate this far south that decade.

I think you are right, for some reason the Silver Falls station doesn't have data from January 1950, but they did have a 40" depth on February 1st, they had a 51" depth on that date in 1969.

Looks like they had 1" of snow depth on Christmas 1921 too.
