Looking November-like ahead... which makes sense since its November.     I don't see anything too crazy yet.    And November will already be about half over by next weekend.    And then onto to a snowy and cold December.  👍

The way the calendar falls this year, I think Saturday will be the latest sunrise we've ever had.

I can't remember what year it was it switched from the last weekend of October to the first weekend in November.  The sunrise here on Saturday is 7:58 AM, the latest it gets in December is 7:52 AM.

Yes... Saturday is the latest sunrise of the year here as well by 4 minutes.    We reach the earliest sunset on December 7th and then stay there for 6 days before it starts to get later.

We are getting close to the bottom.   Days will start getting longer soon.  😃

How on Earth did you avoid a freeze in October 2008?  Some places did low to mid 20s at mid month in October that year.  This year I got my first one a while ago now.

Coldest low here in October 2008 was 38 degrees in the final 1/3 of the month. We’re probably one of the worst places for cold nights still have only managed 2 lows in the 30s so far this fall…but not getting cold anomalies in the fall doesn’t bother me since a lot of times it means a hammer drop is coming with the exception of fall 2015.

I noticed Klamath Falls didn't get under 20 all Oct 2008. Some of the cold must have been localized compared to a couple years ago.

Then I check KHIO which has 10 consecutive days in a row lows <35 and a handful of <32s.

I had forgotten how dry middle and late October was that year. The first week was the rainiest.

The cold snap in October 2008 was around the 10th if I recall correctly. We had a freeze in the Salem area, but it wasn't super exciting. It was a somewhat chilly October overall, looks like 2013 and 2019 were colder at SLE, as was 2007. In the past 30 years it was the 4th coolest October.

Ours where I am is also Saturday 7:38am (beating 7:34am sunrise at the end of Dec). Our earliest sunset is an 11 day stretch of sunsets at 4:03pm from Dec 5th-16th.

Most of you are further north than I am, but I'm also pretty far east so in summer the sun comes up in our east facing rooms earlier than when we lived in Stanwood, but at least it's not shining so bright at bed time (easier for our son to want to go to bed).

Earliest snow I ever had in NW Oregon was 11/15/2003, but in some places it didn't stick.

That was in Beaverton in the middle of a school day. Kids were yelling in it. lol

The 1921 storm is actually among the greatest in the region's history. Your area was on the southern periphery of a pretty extreme baroclinic boundary. Plenty of rain and flash flooding down there. Olympia on the northern edge of it had 17" of snow, and then the eastern periphery of that band had some pretty astonishing weather. Hood River had a 29/17 day on 11/21/21 with 4.05" (!) of precip. About 3' of snow fell there and then there were several more inches of freezing rain. Troutdale also had several inches of ZR.

11/21/1921 was a 34/27 day here with .40 of precipitation (snow was not measured back then).     But it was 49 the next day so it did not last long.

11/21/1985 was much more impressive in this area.    And much more recent!

Can’t believe November 1985 has never been brought up before.

I am well aware of November 1955 and 1985.    Just never looked at the specific details locally.     But with this 11/21 prediction... I thought 1985 would be a good place to start!
