GFS has that silly M-59 cut-off over this way again. Tomorrow evening's got my attention. 12k NAM looks pretty robust.

Found a chilling video from western Kentucky, no idea how close this is to Mayfield but it has to be the same supercell which crossed several states. You can see the actual tornado approaching their area towards the end.

Also note the impressive lightning and how the thunder sounds here. I've only been in lightning of that nature once in my life (July 2017 in Klamath Falls, and it wasn't at night!) and thankfully I'm a relatively light sleeper. Storms like this will jolt me out of bed. I didn't think December could produce this kind of display of energy.

NEW DECEMBER RECORD: 193.7"
With a 24 hour official snow total of 38.9" at the lab, we have smashed the previous record of 179" of snow in December set in 1970!
Snow rates are still heavy and we could even break the 200" mark today!

May be an image of 1 person, snow and text that says 'SSL CENTRAL SIERRA SNOW LABORATORY New December Snow Record 193.7"'

Ran across this 1895 Valentine’s Day photo of a 1 foot snowfall in Galveston Texas.  I suppose anything’s possible.

We had a record warm Christmas Day.
Hoping that doesn’t happen again anytime soon.

I recorded 1.8" of new snow fall yesterday into the overnight. I did a hand shoveling of the driveway and now have the first snow piles of this winter season.  The snow is very wet and there is now a good 2" on the ground here. The overnight low here was 29 at this time it is mostly cloudy and 33 here.

A new Month and a New pattern???

In looking at those snow maps (I always take snow maps with a grain of salt) I see there seems to be a indication that the makers on those maps feel that the lakes are so warm that it would keep the heaviest snow away from the lakes.

Just and indication of how warm the lakes are ATM.  I don’t take it verbatim.  You’ll do real good in the LES dept if the winds cooperate.

Really like the signal for a period of heavy LES rounding out the first week of January.

The next 3 days have some kind of severe risk.

Last night I did see a few flashes to my south from one of the heavy showers, just wasn't close enough to log it as a thunder day! That makes it twice I've seen lightning (also on 12/10), but then Ashland hasn't had a t'storm yet since my arrival.

I've been under the wx the past 24 hours and just getting caught up with everything going on in the wx world.  After yesterday's 1-2 hour window of heavy snowfall, it feels like nature flipped the switch around here and winter has arrived.  Everything is coated with a thin blanket of snow and there is about 1.3" of snow OTG.

It was a good surprise as the wave intensified later in the evening over N IL.  The models weren't really showing this much so it was indeed a bonus.  BTW, I'm feeling better and I give thanks to this product "Carbon 60" produced from an ex-NASA scientist.  https://www.c-60.com/  One of the most powerful gifts from Nature.  This stuff works like a charm, literally in an hour I started feeling better.

There was a brief period of heavy snow fall here last night. The total here at my house was about 1 inch and there is a total of 3" on the ground at this time. Last night was one of the few times were the overnight low at the airport was colder than here at my house. The official low was 25 and here at my house I had a low of 27. At this time it is cloudy and 28 here at my house. Later today or tomorrow I will go and get some gas for the snow blower   as there is a good chance that it will be used for the first time this winter season over the weekend. As for how much snow we will get well as always we shall see. I like this sentence from today GRR discussion "Accumulating snow will occur over our entire forecast area it
appears though with inch or two amounts along U.S. 10, to maybe
3-5" totals along I-96 and potentially 5-7" along I-94. Model QPF
amounts do not support much more than that at this point despite
what you might see from some model algorithms on the web."

I got home last night. It was -12*F when I got in. Snow depth here is about 14". Getting above zero today will feel balmy before dipping well below zero for 72 hours. -1*F.

#realwinter…stoked to hear your cashing in this season.  I know you have been waiting a long time, esp since making the move up north, to be able to experience cold and snow.  Enjoy!

It was yet another mild overnight here as the low of 32 with cloudy skies the current temperature is 35. There is still 1.5" of snow on the ground.  This December will end up being the one of the warmest on record here in Grand Rapids. With a current mean of 34.5° The warmest December on record is 39.1 set in 2015. 36.2 in 1923 is in 2nd place then 35.8 in 1931, 35.1 in 2012, 2006, 2013. 35.0 in 2011. Then this year note that 5 of the current warmest Decembers have happened in the last 20 years.

Fog last couple mornings here in Ashland! Up until yesterday there was none at all since I got here.

Looks like ours actually forms drizzle too (not like the drier cold type we had in Klamath). Mid 40's and looks like some echoes to the west of here coming.

HORRIBLE scenes out of the Denver area today as wildfires have moved into some of the suburbs

I caught some of that before I went to bed, strange how Colorado can be this dry. Nearly everywhere else is doing better on moisture whether it be from rain or snow.

My brother just moved to Colorado in June (Federal Heights). Sounds like this activity is away from him.

We both moved to the 2 states that are making national headlines weeks apart.
