18 fukin inches of rain last month and now when we need a few tenths we can't make it happen.  34 degrees.

You might get a dusting atleast. Yeah disappointing we couldn’t squeeze some more precip with heavier rates out of this one.

Streetlamp check turned up negative thus far.   Will check it again when I awake later on as I usually do.

I’m looking out for this rain/snow mix that’s coming…😂 whenever there’s a chance albeit marginal to see some snowflakes I’m always watching. you never know if it’ll be the last time you see anything the rest of the winter. I’m sure we will see something better than this at some point.

Even the ECMWF gives us a little consolation prize tonight.  Looks like 8z to 10z for the time frame in this area.

More like a cancellation prize.

As in WINTER CANCELLATION!!!

This pushed me over the edge to go look!   I knew it was most likely virga

Such is the sickness of wanting to see snow fall :)

CE4ADA6C-9F29-4C9B-9A91-86970AA05B51.png

Believe me, I understand this pain. Most of our snowstorms start out with 3-6hrs of virga as dry air eats into the precip shield. It’s brutal.

If the wind starts picking up that’s when you know it’s about to start snowing, as the evaporatively-cooled air aloft starts mixing to the surface.

Or at least that’s my experience.

Your location does really well compared to most of us. I remember you scoring bigtime during that snow event 12/21/20. 58/34 day here with a dusting of snow that evening.

Unfortunate that there just isn’t much precip to work with overnight. Wouldve be pretty marginal here but some people could’ve definitely squeezed out a nice little event with just a little more juice. Hopefully the folks up north can get a little something again.

Stronger anom centers on the EPS, and the NW Pacific trough is digging harder than previous runs.

The NW Pacific trough is epic on this run.  That's the piece we need.

Just some light rain here in the last few minutes. It’s getting a bit heavier though maybe it’ll cool down some and get some flakes mixing in.

No doubt the EPS has picked up on something.  This might be what we've been waiting for.

Something is falling from the sky up here in Skagit, but it's too light to know what it is. Perhaps snow, but could be fluttery rain. 37F with a dew point of 33F so it's going to be pretty borderline.

Longtime lurker (literally every winter for the past decade or so, lol), but just wanted to hop in to say I don't think the models look *terrible.* But then, my standard is not a massive lowland snowstorm or arctic blast, but getting the ski resorts open...across the entire West... 😃

Thank you all for providing great insight and perspective over the years. I hope you know the reach of these threads is much wider than just those who are posting here.

Some people must think a few of us have a couple of screws loose.  Kind of scary to think about.

Started out that way here too then it was rain. Need heavier precip rates!

The models show a couple degrees of cooling when the precip gets going.
