Really awesome looking 18z ensemble.  Hopefully it might be the beginning of an upsurge on the models again.  The period around and just after Christmas is really nice looking.

They also included the notes for awhile to leave feedback. I think Ivars was better than what they replaced it with. Agree with you on Amazon just don't tell my boss since they are a major client of ours and I take half of my calls each day from Amazon.

Ivars is also local and doesn't forget that unlike Amazon it seems.

I hope you get lots of snow tonight.

My only problem with ivars was when I moved here from NJ, back in 1990. 🗣🗣was at work when snow storm hit! I lived off of 19th and Madison.  I was wondering why everyone was freaking out lol I'm like oh arent your snow plows and salt trucks coming? People were like what? Lol the manager at the time wouldn't close the restaurant until he was sure! I had to walk 19 plus blocks home from the pier🤣🤣 no salt or snow trucks?

We have them in the burbs in new Jersey lol

Really wish I moved to Spokane instead of Enumclaw.

we've only had 4" officially at the airport in Spokane near 2500'  so far this year, some areas on your side of the state in the lowlands have probably had more.  I'm at 2100' and have had about 2.5". normal at this point in the season is close to 13". last year at this time we had over 20".  This year is shaping up as being a crap fest in the valleys if the pattern doesn't change.  What was looking like a promising system this weekend is now going to be a Snow to Rain slop fest or just rain

I would in fact say the 18z ensemble is kind of an OMG improvement.  Hopefully there is something to it.

2007-08 saw tons of snow in North Idaho and Northeastern Washington. It was record breaking for many locations.

Yeah, 07-08 doesn’t fit the paradigm I was describing, at least for inland locations.

Pretty much, but things can change quickly this time of year. I wouldn't give up hope yet.

Local TV Mets in Spokane had been hyping a white xmas the last couple days.  Today they hedging with the 'ol it was looking like a white xmas now I'm not so sure if it will happen'. Backpedaling

They're waffling just like the forecast models. We have roughly 10 days until Christmas. Next week at this time we'll probably have a better idea about our chances.

I still am not seeing positive anomaly center over interior Alaska.

The trough digs more deeply from Canada though.  Mean 850s drop to -9 over Seattle after Christmas which is by far the coldest yet.

This about as it gets on the 500mb level, but the coldest 850s come a bit after.

Too far west, that can change. The Western Pacific typhoon could be a game changer.

I wonder if that's why this ensemble run is so much improved.  I almost thought it might just be a hiccup or something.  We also have the SSW about to commence.

This is before the 18z ensemble though.  This is a game changer if it's correct.

It’s interesting to me that the best winters for lowland snowfall and the best ski seasons don’t always correlate. 2007-08 is still regarded as one of the best ski seasons in recent memory. 2011-12 was fantastic. 2006-07 wasn’t even bad but people trash it h sometimes here as a torch.

Two of those 3 winter seasons were amazing in my (former) backyard!

and the WPAC jet is soon to shut down coinciding with the EPO going slightly negative before it tanks dramatically before Christmas. BIG things are coming. MBG

Too bad the site showing all the members isn't cooperating.  I would sure like to see them if it's that good.

Something changed to make the ensemble like that.  I just wish the operational had shown something similar.  At least the control got cold as well.

I'm still mad the SeaTac airport location closed.

Yes that was a shady deal from the port. They wanted ivars to pay double $$ for the space, when lease up, and ivars declined and the port said well,  we have others bidding , and it goes by votes. I worked there to for the DM on the side lol and it was a popular location. And if I remember pulled in numbers comparable to pier 54 fish bar. That's the $$. With full service restaurant.

Snow is not coming for the most part to the lowlands.  All the predictions and models the last two weeks as "always" were wrong and people got too excited, jumped on it, and hoped it was real.  For us in the lowlands, we will have rain, and a slight chance of mixed rain/snow in places.  If you head east of the Cascades, that is where your best chance of snow will be, but even that has been pulled back a lot from initial forecasting.  NOAA Wenatchee has pretty much pulled back all their statements as has Spokane.

It snowed at my house all day off and on. Snowed in Shelton.

Hard to believe we have a typhoon and an SSW both to contend with.  Safe to say the models have their work cut out for them.  For all we know at this point we could be buried by Christmas.
