bud2380
Models are now coming into agreement on a decent storm on Christmas Day for much of Minnesota, parts of the Dakotas and Wisconsin. Sadly it will be too far north for a Christmas Miracle down this way, but what a fun Christmas Day snow this will be for those impacted. Good luck to those in the path. westMJim
In fitting with this post title of Christmas miracle snow events. Here at Grand Rapids Michigan they are not very common. The biggest Christmas snow miracle snow event in my life time was in 1965 when here at Grand Rapids there was no snow on the ground as of late in the day on the 24th the high for the 24 was 50. But after sunset the snow started and here in GR there was 6" by Christmas morning. So other years that snow fell on the 24 just in time to make a white Christmas were in 1966, 1997 and last year when one inch fell on the 24th just in time for that 1" of snow on the ground on the 25th At this time that don't look to happen this year.

Marshall missed out on last year's Christmas day snows, but in 2002 (my first yr there) we had 8" on the 24-25th from a storm that wasn't even forecast to come up into The Mitt. The next year 2003 also hit on the 24-25th with about 4", and ofc the more recent 2017 storm brought ~6". So, since relocating back to SMI in '02 there have been a few good "miracle storms". Honorable mention goes to the Boxing Day storm in 2012 that was a solid 3-4" 1 Quote Winter 2023-24 Snow Total = 52.8" (89% Normal Season) Largest Storm: 12" (1/12-13) Oct: 0.1 Nov: 2.9 Dec: 7.5 Jan: 31.7 Feb: 6.0 Mar: 4.1 Apr: 0.0 Avg = 59.2" (Harrison): 2023-24 = xx.x" Avg = 45.0" (KDTW): 2022-23 = 33.5" 2021-22 = 35.6" Avg = 49.7" (KRMY): 2020-21 = 36.2" 2019-20 = 48.0" 2018-19 = 56.1" 2017-18 = 68.3" 2016-17 = 52" 2015-16 = 57.4" 2014-15 = 55.3" 2013-14 = 100.6" (coldest & snowiest in the modern record!) 2012-13 = 47.2" 2011-12 = 43.7" Legit Blizzards (high winds and dbl digit snows): Feb 2011, Dec 2009, Jan 2005, Dec 2000, Jan 1999, Mar 1998, Nov 1989, Jan 1982, Jan 1978, Jan 1977, Apr 1975, Mar 1973, Jan 1967, Feb 1965, Jan 1918
