PNW December 2021 Obs - A December for Despair and Disappointment

Recommended Posts

Looks like the low is traveling SSE down the Sound. Lack of precip currently is probably due to the low tracking a bit further east than what was expected, so we have more of the dry slots to contend with. Will be curious to see how this change effects any banding/backfill on the backside of the low vs. what was modeled.

12z GFS still has that thump of very heavy wet snow for Puget Sound Sunday night from an anafront. Kuchera map spits out over 8" for Seattle. Definitely needs to be watched closely.

It is very small town, don’t even have a post office so it technically gives us a sedro Woolley address but we are 15 miles east of there and 8 miles west of concrete! We love it out here, very peaceful!

Thank you very much!

I had this driveway completely cleared yesterday. Pulled the truck out this morning at 5am to wheel the generator up to the carport. Had to run into work, roads have 6” plus on them.

Elevation 580’ Location a few miles east of I-5 on the Snohomish Co side of the Snohomish/Skagit border. I love snow/cold AND sun/warmth!

Hey Kunu @TT-SEA what’s your status up there

Snowy!    About 5 or 6 inches of new snow overnight.   South wind kicked in for awhile a couple hours ago but calm again now.

Really disappointing to see most of the cold air taken away for early/middle of next week. :( GFS has taken a major step towards the EURO. Oh well, this has been a decent stretch.

Main precip band has finally reached us. Moderate snow and 31.8.

Seems pretty extreme, but when does it fall? 850s crash hard at PDX by this evening.

Most models have been coming on board with a little banding tomorrow morning with the last little push of continental air.

December to remember. Just a crummy GFS run, but the operational has been a little more "exciting" than most of the ensembles lately. ;)

Everett switched to West wind and should be pivoting around the North here in the next 30 minutes or so.

That anafront Sunday night on the 12z GFS is a thing of beauty for Puget Sound. 1" of QPF in about 9 hours that night for Seattle and temps crash to the low 30's.

Canadian pushes the front south faster which doesn't allow the cold air to catch up to it. Definitely bares watching.

Main precip band raced through here. After about 45 mins of moderate snow its just coming down lightly now. Haven't measured, but probably 1/2-1".

The amount of rain the GEM shows is ridiculous.
