It’s actually flurrying here right now. Very light floaty flakes.

Pretty nuts we’ve been getting snowfall with temps in the low 20s. Says it’s 22 degrees at home right now…probably will manage to hit 25-27 today. Can’t wait to get home tomorrow I’ll be there in less than 24 hours!

Here's comparison frames for the Thursday system 925s and 850s 12z vs 00z Euro. Both frames are the warmest I could find for that time period.

For 850s - they are -8c at 1AM, go to -4c for a few hours Thursday AM, and then drop to -6c by 10AM and -8c by 1PM.

For 925s - they are -3c at 4AM and drop to -4c again by 10AM with that 0c sandwiched right in between.

Also, here's the surface temp run-to-run change. For the Puget Sound area it looks like temps only max out at 35 with DPs remaining below freezing (mostly in the 20s).

12z surface temp change.png

Don’t think we will be seeing any rain on Thursday with below freezing DPs. Think the euro will continue to trend towards the gfs. Will probably end up with a couple inches of more snow and a reinforcing shot of cold air really nice going into NYE.

The official station is called “Arlington Municipal Airport, WA. KAWO.” See below.

Haha. I’ve been using this site for years as the “official” data.  The mystery is solved.  I know Arlington’s designated as KAWO but never realized this was different.  Thanks

Oh no guys... Judah's model is back and it's not looking good for us by the third week of January.

My question is: What happened to last week of December/first week of January for the flip? Now they are expected to wait until the third week of January? What?! Doesn't Mother Nature know that Judah with his snowflake sweater and all the east coast weenies expect January to be in the East Coast's column and counted on as a consistently cold month?

What a shame...

I guess he figures he'll be right at some point, lol

Astoria hanging tough at 27. They are likely going to score a sub-freezing high. Unfortunately PDX - south were in the 33-34 range at midnight. Some stations like HIO and CVO could get a sub-freezing high perhaps.

I just love when we can get this cold with this dry of air.

Even with the brilliant blue skies and sunshine, there is 0 melting occurring with no snow falling off trees. Still just as beautiful as last night and yesterday!

Temp sitting at 20 with a DP of 17.

Before I knew of this forum I thought for sure I was the only person that hated it when snow fell off the trees and dripping occurred from the roofs

HRRR doesn't look great for SW WA snow with the system tomorrow.

I've said it before but it bears repeating: I highly suggest you do not use the HRRRRR model for anything but a 2-4 hour futurecast radar. It does pretty horribly in general but does especially horrible for anything further than 5+ hours out where it can't see/use the current radar.

Last night's light precip in Seattle gave maybe a half inch, just enough to cover anything that had been cleared! So nice to wake up to even more white on the sidewalks and cars. Can't remember the last time I've seen such fresh-looking snow a day after the snow stopped!

Measured another half inch last night to bring the storm total up to 5.5”, just shy of our seasonal average. If we squeeze out an errant half inch tonight from a wandering deformation band we would meet it.

As an additional positive to our improving Thursday trends, this means that there is a legitimate (and now significant) possibility that SeaTac will make it six days in a row below freezing. Unheard of since Jan 1969. Got close in Nov 1985.

One thing to keep In mind, if we get a south or se wind before the front arrives it's not going to have the moderating power it'd normally have.

We come from the land of the ice and snow.

I actually live right around where you described, my side street is very icy. 55th and other larger streets are fine, but I'd be a little cautious taking side streets in the area. 4WD cars will probably be fine.
