There are spotter reports of over 20 inches.

I've never measured 12 inches in my life.  Meanwhile, a piddly, barely-noticeable system dropping south through the plains drops 20 inches.

We don't get big blizzards that drop this much snow.  I think I only remember a March slow moving system in 2006 that dropped over 2 feet.

I have a buddy that lives just outside of Boston. I've given him the heads up!

I also have a cousin who lives in the suburbs of Boston and just recently told him about this monster (but he already knew) and told me that he had a "Shipt Shopper" buy him $200 worth of groceries. 😆 He also told me that they are in "High Risk" of getting this huge snowstorm, so he is taking no chances.  Man, I can only imagine the snow rates that they are going to experience.

Looks like reports of 20-22" south of Goodland and even a 27" to the SW. Like what even, just insane. I wasn't paying super close attention but I think the upgrade to warnings was pretty last minute too. I doubt Kuchera even modeled close to that high.

Can we lock in the 18z GFS?  My goodness. Very stormy pattern next week potentially. Lots of time to track.

Hopeful for you guys who've REALLY been shafted this winter to finally see some action. 31st day suffering with Covid and/or it's after-effects and this (relatively speaking vs Dec ofc) bitter cold pattern that has suddenly become persistent here is unwelcomed by self. I don't have a garage, I have a not too close to my apt door "car port" and even after going out in 9F this am to start my car and let it idle 15 full mins, I jumped in to go to work and the needle hadn't budged off "cold" on the temp gauge. She's a small-ish 4-cylinder and she just hates to warm up when it's below 20F! Pathetic, but I'm stoked to see 35F (above freezing!) in my grid for next Tues. Just have to make it through some even colder days/nights to get there, lol. At least we finally got the barren tundra ground covered decently so the cold is "useful" in that sense. I just need an already warm "taxi" to and from work to improve my attitude. Maybe I will see if Uber or Lift could be just that. I've never used either. If any of you have tip for me on that, feel free to comment. I normally arrive to work 7 am, leave 5 pm. Not crazy hours, right?

Edit - How do I arrange a ride, is via an app on my phone??

Very easy amigo. I use both (Lift and Uber) only when I travel, especially when I am in NYC.

So, just download the app on your mobile device. Fill in a few details. Provide your payment info.

Tip: I usually add in one of my credit card numbers w/ low amount of cash on it, just for ride purposes. NEVER add in your bank acct.

Once you are done filling out everything..you are good to go. Its very convenient and they arrive fast. You can even track them on your phone to see where they are. Always leave a tip at the end. Your phone will give you that option once ur ride ends. Hope this helps bud!

Btw: Sometimes I tell the Uber or Lift driver to put on some low music so that I can sit back and enjoy my ride. Dont be shy w/them. Remember, you are paying!!

Forecast graphic from last year’s big snowstorm on this date.
That small oval shaped blob of higher amounts on the north side of Omaha and points north covered my house so I really thought I was golden.

Unfortunately I somehow only ended up with 8.5” IMBY from this storm despite the 12-14” totals all over eastern Nebraska.

Apparently, there was little to no wind during the 27" snowfall in western Kansas this morning.  That would be a dream.

Regarding Uber, you have to download their app and register.  Its pretty easy.  It all really depends on your area in terms of rates.  I hear Uber is better in the Chicago area while Lyft is better in the Scottsdale area when I venture out west.  BTW, you should become a "snow bird" and come make a visit out west sometime soon!  Maybe you'll consider that when we enter the Spring doldrums and the depressing weather settles in 😉

Judah Cohen might be using his snow magnet to finally reel one in....Boston has been missed for the most part this season, I'd be stoke to sit there and enjoy this "white 'cane" pound the EC!  Hurricane Force wind gusts off the latest 0z Euro and 2-3 Feet of snow....who wants to go to Cape Cod??  As modeled, this Beast in the East looks to be a 24+hour snow event.  Reminiscent to the stories @Nikohas mentioned on here.

If, and that is a Big "IF", due to its variability, but the 0z GEFS are showing a SSW event across Eurasia post FEB 5th generating a Cross Polar Flow pattern into North America.   Some of the coldest air over the entire Northern Hemisphere could be delivered into our Continent.  This pattern reminds me of FEB '14 and '15....Brrrr!

What a pattern this could end up becoming as we marry the STJ and track some southern stream storms for once....

Thanks amigo! Last night I took those steps deciding on Paypal instead of DC and Bank acct. This is for the uber app, didn't mess with Lyft at this point. Planning to request rides to/from my work for these 2-3 days that are coldest. Then we'll see where it goes from that point.

So, the models are trending towards my initial thinking of a lead Upper MW wave followed by a secondary piece riding up the thermal gradient and quite a temp gradient pattern it will be.

Wow, that 2nd map is like GHD-1, but with bigger totals north of Chicago, instead of Chicago and SW from there. Really gets cranking from Lake Huron NE into SE ONT, and SW Quebec. Like a 3 foot bliz up north. But looking closely, due to the NE fetch down Saginaw Bay that's a 25" total showing for city of Saginaw. Now, we all know these d10 maps portray the absolute max perfect storm outcome, lol but it's still neat to see that showing up.

Local station dipped to -7F as I went for a walk earlier.  The slight breeze had a bite to it this morning against my face. Very crisp out there and I enjoyed the Tundra landscape as well as the “crunch” sound of the snow.  #realwinter

My guess is the Upper "MW Wave" along w/ the secondary piece all in one.

We did not come close to the forecasted low temp overnight.  The NWS predicted -22º, but the airport, always a cold spot, only hit -15º, and my yard only hit -11º.  I think our snow is just too old and not deep enough.  We really need fresh, deep powder to reach the -20s.
