Next winter season will be a neutral year.

Hey I hope the niño transition waits until 2023. Want to save it for next -QBO, lol.

But there’s a truckload of historical precedent for persistent boreal winter WPAC forcing triggering ENSO phase change, especially preceding downwelling of westerly shear in the tropical stratosphere.

Unfortunately would probably be another blast furnace summer in the West if it happened this year. Don’t want to see you guys roast like that again (though better you than me..😬).

As things go quiet here, it will be interesting to see what shakes out in the southeast this weekend.  I've only seen a few model runs, but some are showing a rather nasty ice storm in the mountain regions of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.  One run was showing over 1" of ice along the NC/SC border...I don't see that verifying, but even 1/2 of that would be a big pile of suckage.

Runs earlier in the week were showing 12"+ on the north side of Atlanta, that would be a sight to see.  The most I ever saw growing up there was about 6-8" I think it was the winter of '92 to '93.  I had an Isuzu Trooper, and I took a cousin and a few of her friends out into a pasture and pulled them around on a wake board.

Someone right on the lee side of the apps is gonna get nuked by a foot of snow with a lot of ZR on top. Definitely a messy forecast. Looks like a snow-to-ice-to-rain transition here.

Actually somewhat concerned about high winds locally..screaming 80kt easterly LLJ a few thousand feet up. If the cool wedge gets scoured out it could get ugly since we rarely get strong wind from that direction.

The fact that places like Nashville could be getting more snow in a single day than we have in the last year.... #jealous 😐

We thought that in January 2014 (even had near 60 and sun in K-Falls!), and then February happened.

Can't really go anywhere with Omicron going crazy.    But its a great football weekend!

I am just getting over Omicron for my second round of Covid. Got it the first time on 11/22/20

This time was worse as I had more lung breathing issues than the first time. This wave that went through town was also much bigger than the Nov 2020 wave. Everyone got it. Most of our restaurant's, schools, city works had to close because everyone is out sick. It doesn't matter if you had covid before, have the Vaccine, or had covid and the vaccine. Omicron got everyone, and as far as I can tell between my friends, the symptoms were exactly the same for everyone. I thought I might have to go to the ER last Wed cause my O2 fell below 90 for 4 hours. I have had covid, I had both Pfizer vaccines + booster and a flu shot.

It sounds like this wave could potentially get every American. 1,300,000 cases in one day, I don't think anyone escapes it. You'd have to be locked up in a dungeon to miss it.

I live in a higher transmission state too on the statistics. I might have (or might not?) gotten it beginning of the year, I had to skip a couple of dinners and was a little feverish but it passed after a couple days. Last year I was testing but came up negative.

Never had breathing trouble the whole stretch. I am hearing some recent information that people with specific blood types are getting effected differently. I still do not know my own type which is kind of silly but again I rarely ever would use that info.

First time I had covid I had a massive headache for 2 days before the other symptoms kicked in. I was hanging out at a friends bar and all 35 of us got it. Most had the same symptoms.

This time it started with a scratchy throat and then woke up unable to breath and a dry cough that I couldn't stop. Most people I know had the same exact thing this time. Previous time all of us lost our smell. This time nobody did. Very odd.

Both my parents have it right now. Neither have it very bad. My dad is overweight and diabetic but had nothing more than moderate cold symptoms and he's been on the mend for a couple days now. Both are boosted. Crazy how differently it affects different people.

Glad you are getting better!

It’d be painful to see the east coast get snow (glad to see you score of course) if we hadn’t scored already. But last months event was basically like the “little brother” to December 2008…so we will live. I’m still feeling good about snow next month.

Might as well be one. The sensible weather is the same.

Wasn't December pretty snowy up at your place? The northwest had its best one in several years.

Hasn’t been nino like for the most part here. Split flow has been no where to be found. The first half of the winter has been cooler than normal with a pretty significant cold and snow event to end the year. The first couple days of December and the last few days have felt nino like.

It's nice we scored, but January at least in Oregon could end up one of the warmest on record at current pace. Par for the course the past 5 years.

Also, since my January forecast obviously failed... I should take a victory lap about how back in Mid-December I noted it would likely be the warmest December on record for the lower 48. No one thought it was possible, but it happened.

They just had a 6-8" snowstorm like a week ago too. Pretty great pattern for them.
