National Blend of Models shows a total of 0.1" of rain for Seattle in the next 10 days, almost all of which falls this morning.

Seems likely Monday and Tuesday give us a bit more, but still. The next 7-10 days look impressively calm and dry. Wish they would be more inversiony.

Really?  I have always felt that inversions are the worst weather just behind wildfire smoke inversions.  The air is stagnant and usually cold and foggy and can’t see our beautiful northwest scenery.

I am just getting over Omicron for my second round of Covid. Got it the first time on 11/22/20

This time was worse as I had more lung breathing issues than the first time. This wave that went through town was also much bigger than the Nov 2020 wave. Everyone got it. Most of our restaurant's, schools, city works had to close because everyone is out sick. It doesn't matter if you had covid before, have the Vaccine, or had covid and the vaccine. Omicron got everyone, and as far as I can tell between my friends, the symptoms were exactly the same for everyone. I thought I might have to go to the ER last Wed cause my O2 fell below 90 for 4 hours. I have had covid, I had both Pfizer vaccines + booster and a flu shot.

Wow, that sucks. I’m 90+% sure I just had it over the holidays (couldn’t get tested, but it came on with some classic COVID symptoms and just felt different than a cold or the flu), but it was quite mild overall (I am fully vaxxed and boosted). Most colds I’ve had have been worse. The worst thing was having to self-isolate.

It's called clown range for a reason.

At least cold foggy weather feels like winter.

I think false spring inversions suck more. They are a waste of a perfectly good wintertime ridge in my book.

I do like foggy weather I just like any sunny day I can get in winter even more.  After fall I lose some of the excitement of foggy weather.  I do enjoy some fog and sun in the mornings though.

The fact that places like Nashville could be getting more snow in a single day than we have in the last year.... #jealous 😐

Who is this “we,” kemosabe? I seriously doubt Nashville is modeled to receive 2 feet or more of snow in a single day.

Maybe if it was sunny and cold. The midwinter ridges that make me feel cheated are the ones where it struggles to even hit freezing on clear nights. The ones with the reliably frosty nights always tend to be at least partly foggy.

That said, even a false spring ridge is still a ridge, so at this stage I’ll take it.

So is Jim ok? Does anyone communicate with him on the side? I don't know where he works or I might go check on him 🙂 Covington area isn't that far from Tacoma...

Highly likely he’s fine just waiting for some type of pattern Change on the models. If there was really something brewing and he wasn’t here then I’d be worried.

Are you not familiar with his posting patterns?   If the models start showing anything cold then he will back in a heartbeat.  😀

Main difference between 18/19 and 21/22 is this winter had a pretty solid event in the first half while that one didn’t. This winters first half was much cooler than that one and wetter. I Still think something happens next month though despite that. Recently these warm Januaries have led to cold re emerging in February.

I know, it just seems like he was posting every day even when things didn't look good for cold. I also have noticed that when he is working, he doesn't post during the day, like some of us!

Yeah. Been erupting on and off since the solstice. It erupted again today, quite spectacularly from the looks of it.

By the looks of satellite that one must have a little more explosivity than La Palma?

I'm just curious if there's any going off that have historically cooled the weather. I know anything less than a vei-5 won't do it.

It depends on the location and duration, as well as the type of eruption. iirc the VEI scale only factors in ash emissions. Iceland has had some profoundly cooling ancient eruptions due to mass SO2 release from large, long-duration fissure eruptions (infact so much SO2 was released that there are multiple die-offs in NW Europe due to weeks-long asphyxiation. A similar eruption today would kill millions in Britain)

Tropical eruptions are also more potent b/c midlatitude+polar wx circulations tend to trap emissions in their respective hemisphere; while in the tropics ejecta is dispersed to both hemispheres. Plus environmental lapse rates in the tropics are super negative all the way to 100mb and lower, so rising material is more buoyant and encounters less resistance.

Mt. Saint Helens scored a VEI of 5, but didn't do much in terms of cooling b/c it was a flank eruption in the midlatitudes.
