Yeah that was nasty. Upper 90s to middle 100s, lows well into the 80s, and sky high humidity. Lasted for several weeks.

Have you experienced real humidity before? If not, get ready. It drains your life force.

FWIW our big severe events generally don’t happen under huge death ridges. Have to be on the edge of the ridge. Otherwise convection is capped and you just end up roasting. Plus shear/dynamics are weak to nonexistent with strong ridging, so anything that pops up is of the pulse variety and usually not severe.

Strong shortwave troughs are where the money is at.

Since none of my relatives live in the eastern US I've never visited this region until moving here. So DP's over 70 will be new. And high DP's while it's 100 will be new as well (that kind of heat tends to be dry in the northwest).

Can definitely understand why people in Oregon feel that way. Winter has been incredibly in western WA favor for the last 5 years now. Oregon hasn’t “won” a winter since January 2017.

Several stations in Oregon had its snowiest February in a long time in 2019. That one was definitely not a localized month and Redding had a snowstorm out of the late month event.

Last winter was incredible in western Washington because of 3 days? Quite a low bar.

Well I wanted to wait until it was officially official but we just signed the purchase and sale so I think I can now announce that we have officially sold our house!! Woohooo!! $240k more than we bought it for about 2.5 years ago. Crazy!

It was actually a pretty insane chain of events that lead to us selling this quickly. We had just met with a couple realtors at the end of last week to go over preparing for listing and the process that entailed. We had decided on our realtor and had started lining up the last bits of things we needed to take care of before we listed and started showings during the 2nd week of February. Went to the local Fred Meyer on Saturday to buy a couple things for staging and ran into an extended family member at the store who mentioned she had a very close friend who just got out-bid on another house in the area in our same price point. She came on Sunday to look at our house and fell in love. Drafted up the P&S yesterday and signed everything today.

We are still kind of in shock with how quickly it all happened. I had built this idea in my mind of waiting for listing, then showings, then going through the offers and accepting... This whole long process that just got completely nixed! Best parts... No inspection and no agent commissions to be paid. Saves us ~$30k! We are so excited!!!!!

Congrats bro. Happy for you (and a bit jealous) and hope all goes well.

Well we did get 13.5” of snow in 18 hours here. It was a pretty fun weekend. Everyone’s got different expectations for what’s good or not. For me winters a win if we get a few inches of snow and some cold weather for a few days…but I can understand what qualifies as a good winter might be different living at 1600’.

I'm guessing without looking that some cities average 2" a winter. If he (tacoma) had a foot or more in one event that's up there with what I got in Jan 2004 and that's a faster snowfall than 2008. ;)

We average close to 6” of snow a year here…but the average the last 6 winters has been close to 11”. February 2019,2021 and December 2021 are some of the snowiest months on record here.

It’s actually pretty incredible when you start to think about it more. Tons of big snow events while our average temperatures keep going up (especially with our blowtorch summers we have had in the last decade). Have done pretty great with everything considered.

Like I mentioned before, the lowest I will grade this winter is a B, even if we continue the January snore fest all the way into spring. The bigly flooding and big windstorm up here in November and the big event between Christmas and New Years including a white Christmas along with little teaser slush events in the weeks leading up to it…We really cannot complain up here. I’m currently running on a B+ scoring.

Maybe it’ll be a new normal to hit 106 degrees and pick up 26 inches of snow all in the same year.

Seemed like last La Nina was a pretty narrow (mostly WA) snow and I remember seeing pictures of Snoqualmie getting buried in feet of snow, but it was dry down in southern Oregon.

Feb 2019 was the last time the whole region had a solid share of snow and cold.

A good winter needs to be more than 3-7 cold days. That’s called a nice event. Even 2008-09 had more than just one cold snap, 2016-17 was great in that regard too. 1995-96 was active throughout, 1992-93 multiple cold waves. 1985-86 multiple cold waves and long duration of cold. 1984-85, long duration cold, different events, etc... 2020-21, 3-4 cold days. Lol. For Washington folks I will give you this year, that  cold wave was impressive and you haven’t torched nonstop since mid October like we have.

I think 2019 should count as that was longer than some of the other northwest snows.

18-19 may have started in Feb, but snowed all month and that's a rare feat.

The ceiling for this winter is probably 2017-18. Very chilly December regionally, got very good again in late February, and had a cold March. The lowland snow aspect of late December 2021 was great everywhere, I will give in that, not trying to minimize the event at all. It was grade A, most places have just had literally nothing outside that time period... Early next week still has some potential for spots. I bet Randy sees flakes. 😃

Locally I think March 2021 was a bit cooler than 2018 but we all know how dry last Spring was.

I gave last year some points on temperature diversity (record lows in May, then 103 six weeks later?).
Amazing how KLMT avoided hitting zero but probably had some of the coldest Spring low temperatures since I moved there.

The sun is out where I am in south Tacoma.  It looks good and feels nice too.

That means we should be clearing out in the next 30 minutes too.

Thought we would stay below 40 again but in the last 30 minutes the fog has burned off. Up to 41.7 now! Might have to go for a walk.

I live in a great location for last years February snowstorm. Over a foot of snow here. I gave last winter a C-. Right now I’m giving this winter a D-.

You understand. Grade A+ event for you, but literally your only action the whole winter.
