I'm starting to like the back half of February for some cold onshore flow.

I hope that leads to a stormy pattern for California at some point, because it has been WAY too dry statewide for all of January (or Juneuary as some have been calling it recently).

Fog is quickly dissipating West of the Sound and seems to be eroding from the North as well. Should be at least some sun for Seattle/Everett within the next hour or two I think.

If you’re driving without sunglasses you’re well on your way to a low grade headache.

Sunshine on a summer afternoon is much less squinty... although that has been mentioned as a reason for cheering for clouds all summer.  👍

My eyes are a bit more sensitive to light than the average person, as are my roommates'. And yes, sun in my eyes bothers me during the winter, too.

In all honesty I imagine you'd love the Oregon foothills. A step drier/warmer during the summer (especially recently), yet not oppressively so. Good natural scenery, nearby parks and amenities, clear western foothill lakes for watersports. Foster Reservoir has clear and refreshing water; like a less polluted Lake Washington. Very similar winter climo, except less cold air and snow than your North Bend location.

Sun-Tue trough looks potent on the 18z GFS. Could be some PSCZ snow in favored spots.

There are aspects I would like down there.   But I also love the dry east wind through the pass here in the winter.    They don't have that down there away from the Gorge.

We usually go to Lake Sammamish which is just about the best lake for water activities anywhere.    It's always warm in the summer and the water is generally clean and there is no algae even when it gets hot and it's a big lake so it never seems too crowded.   And it's very close.   You just can't beat the Puget Sound region for water access and natural beauty.  I am not a fan of reservoirs... water levels are too unpredictable.  Lake Sammamish is always at the same general water level all year long and it's a natural glacial lake.

Took the day off to clean up at the lake house while the weather was still dull. Could barely see the dock from the house when I first got there this morning, then by the time I got up to clean the roof the north wind had picked up and it was trying to clear a little, then by the time I was done there was actually a little blue sky. It was chilly! Oh and the water level is still quite high!

Coldest day yet with this inversion with a 36/31 spread.  I think I see how this area managed to average near freezing in January 1977 now.

Boring though.   In fact it seems like its become pretty annoying even for the folks on here.

Thankfully today should be the last day... the ECMWF shows a much stronger east wind tomorrow and it stays offshore through the day.

That trough centered around Feb 1 is actually looking pretty darn chilly now.  The 12z ECMWF has a few well below normal days and a little bit of lowland snow with that.

Looks like SEA is going to have a 39/32 day today.  At this point any cold in January is good in my book.  The Jan normal for SEA has reached levels I never thought possible.

Really noticed the higher sun angles today. Becoming less subtle now.

High was in the upper 20s but felt downright balmy in the sun. Tim season is starting. :(
