The fog is locked in over the Sound today... more solid than yesterday and not breaking up at all.   Its not going anywhere today.

Oh baby!  Much nicer digging on the EPS vs the 0z.  The situation over the NW Pacific is excellent on both operational and EPS for forcing a really nice block by day 9 or 10.  Nice improvements from the 0z.

All but 2 months have been below normal precip since 2021 began and we have had 4 colder than normal months since 2020 began. We have now had 11 consecutive warmer than normal months once January is over. Longest I can find is 15 straight from part of 2014-all of 2015. Just now passed half a decade since our last Arctic airmass and have nearly had the city burn and/or ashfall with abysmal air quality now annually.

Yeah....it was getting a bit brighter here for a while, but now really grey again.  The NWF forecast today was obviously believing the models.  Too sunny and too warm.

Had seasons with lots of both rain and snow. Sometimes it hard to get winters like that though.

Absolutely beautiful up at Crystal though!!!  I curious if Poo Poo point is clear….would be a fun hike to look down on the blanket of fog today.  Highway 18 cam off line so not sure if it’s worth my efforts.

Hwy 18 camera has been offline for months... really annoying.

Flakes falling but not sticking. Our property gets so much ice I was hoping for a few highs around 50 before each next snow.

Also... the camera at the Snoqualmie Parkway exit on I-90 shows sun and its lower than Tiger Mountain.    I believe the hike you mentioned is in the hills in this view which is looking to the WSW.

Not sure what to make of it, but we are now to 5 of the last 6 GFS ensemble control runs taking 850s below -12 over SEA.  It was probably the best thing out there on picking up on the last cold wave on a consistent basis.

There is definitely a trend on European suite of models today for strengthening the middle part of the block.  The operational ECMWF looked very promising.

There are some really cold pockets with this inversion.  Give it a couple more days before making a judgement.  I will grant you it won't live up to what you had down there in 2013.

65 on Huckleberry Ridge in the Willapa Hills.  Now that's an inversion.  The strong ridging we are currently in actually gives me more confidence of a cold wave working out a bit down the road.

Most of that January from beginning to end, was cold. I don't think any station right now is going to end solidly cold, including where I used to live. It may average out at least so it's not a gigantic torch.

It’s the same temperature here as camp Muir at 10,000ft. Not a huge fan of these patterns but they are somewhat interesting statistically.

It's probably about a week too late to have a good inversion pattern down here. Pretty shocking to see how far south the clearing line is in the valley today. EUG and Corvallis should put up some cold departures though.
