I actually went to Cle Elum High for my senior year in high school and they had a metal roof on that building.  It was pretty weird looking out the windows during the winter and seeing nothing but the inside of a snow bank.

Still not sure what to think about tomorrow night.  We'll just have to watch model trends today.  The threat for some lowland snow Monday night appears to be pretty real though.

Meanwhile the long range models are looking good for more GOA blocking later this month.

I had no idea either when we first bought our house.  Nor did I know about blowing out sprinklers in the fall.

There was a Seattle or Western Wa based architect who designed a few homes in a new development here and had no idea about snow slides or guards. So the snow slid from different parts of the roof to a place between the two roof lines and it was a disaster as all the snow slid there and there was no place for it to go.  Obvious to local roofers that the architect had no clue and didn't ask locals about the snow here.

Gfs and euro both look pretty active…gfs more so but there’s definitely a few chances of snow even on the euro.

Comparing the 12z GEFS mean to the 6z and 0z at the end of the run the GOA blocking signal is much stronger on this run.

I’m hoping this will do the trick…A LOT of ice built up in this particular area near the leak, my arms are now a tad sore from chiseling and hammering the ice away. The Icicles did a number to the Hardie board siding paint as well. Before and after pics!

Another thing people have here are heat cables for gutters to keep water flowing and to protect the gutters from being damaged.

A lady I know in chesaw had -25 lastnight around 11pm before Cloud rolled in. Her coldest December reading in last few years. She's had -35 A few times in last few years.

My brother always talks about 1996. He didn't have a thermometer, but it's the coldest he ever saw or felt up in Chesaw.

I talked to a old timer that was born in chesaw in 1938. Told me it was 45 below in 96.

The major question is how fast the cold air gets pushed out and the timing of the system whether its during the night/the day. Need to get that snowfall with the system cooling the air at good precipitation rates. Best for it to start late in the night and then strengthen during the day...

Totally agree.  This was a great week for certain.  Many locations will end up with 10+ days of continuous snow cover.  The 5 freezing max temps at SEA already puts them in great company.  Not a huge number of months that have pulled off that many.

A lot of the thing tomorrow night has to do dynamic cooling due to heavy precip rates.  The GFS seems to bring a little bit of seepage from the passes into play also.

I'm actually happy to see the ECMWF brings an inversion pattern into the picture for a while around day 9.  That will increase our chances for a cold month overall.  Anything other than the horrid pattern the last 4 Januarys please.  One thing we have going for a good monthly average is the fact the average for today through Wednesday will be solidly below normal to kick off the month.

At least we ended up with 11.13" of rain so almost +4" there so that's wonderful!!

I ended up with an average of 36.8 and Bellingham was like 34 point something.  Incredible N to S gradient last month.  Coldest December IMBY since 2016.

The north/south gradient is only going to get worse in the years going forward. Eventually it'll be more regularly focused even further north until one day our access to Arctic air just...sort of ends.

Spokane ended up with a mean of 27.5°F. The first half was an absolute torch.
