Brian_in_Leavenworth
3 hours ago, Mr Marine Layer said: Why is Leavenworth so snowy if it's just barely over 1000 ft in elevation? Eastern WA is colder during winter and hotter during summer. And being in the east slopes, we get a lot of cold air damming. We also get a lot more precipitation than other parts of Eastern Washington since we are closer to the mountains. Even Cashmere, which is close by, gets a lot less. There are large precipitation gradients in a small area. This is the main reason we get more snow than Winthrop, though they are further North and at a higher elevation. And during snow storms, we often get easterly upslope winds due to low pressure systems being to our SW. That enhances precipitation even more. Big factor today along with a huge slug of moisture. 1
