I mean, I wouldn't want it all winter, but I don't know that there's a limit to how much snow I would want to have in the short term.

Yeah, we had about 2 feet on the ground when all was said and done in early March 2019. The nice thing about that was we had a lot of sunny weather afterward, with freezing nights and the snow just kind of slowly melted away until it was all gone in early April.

A nightmare scenario would be January 2012 when we had a snow depth of 26" and 5.38" of rain in one calendar day, followed by another 2" of rain the following day. That was a nightmare. Unfortunately our melting process from the December snow has been closer to the January 2012 event, though not quite as extreme as the atmospheric river is focused a bit further north.

A soupy property right now! 1.13” far on the day of snowmelt and rain through the rain gauge. Main drainage is at about 70%  capacity. 43 degrees, been a while since we have been that warm!
What a winter so far!

My facebook memory from 2011 popped up. I lived down in Silverton, but I drove up where I live now and there was about 6-8" on the ground and it was perfectly sunny. The snow had fallen about a week earlier, but was still on the trees after a week of cold sunny weather. Would be amazing to get a stretch like that.

Snow isn't everything when ranking a winter, it's a big part of the equation, but I would take 2016-17 over 2011-12 any day, and it had about half as much snow. When weighing the two, cold is going to beat out snow in my book.

Here are 850 weeklies. Potential for partial rear entry around the 20-25th and then a N/S progression beginning of Feb.

I prefer the rear entry method.

I've come to the conclusion that it's simply way better for your cold/snow chances if you're south of Olympia.

The low landfalling later tonight should mix you out safely. At least up to 37-38 or so. Probably gonna be some ~50mph SW winds for Spokane area in the morning, could even be a significant storm.

Dec '10 and Feb '11 had AR's shoot the snow levels up to 8000 feet in Klamath Falls, it poured so much there was nothing white on the ground before the next time it snowed. I don't remember a lot of rain in 11-12. I just remembered it being a late starting winter.

Getting to be a problem here.  Local streets get narrower and narrower, as does the end of my driveway.  No real place to put snow.  Difficult to drive around even when the streets are (relatively) cleared.  Some older homes could have problems with roof collapses, though one of my good friends says December 1996 had this much or more if snow on the ground (Leavenworth had about 90" of snow that month.) so I think houses here can generally withstand snow this deep.

Getting to the point my snowblower can't aim high enough to throw snow over the top and into the yard on the other side.

And snowing moderately again

Like Dave Niehaus once said "It just continues, my oh my!"

Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho got hit by a snow storm!!!  Should be warm for melting by Friday.  Depending on which area you lived, your snow amount varied, plus cold gusty winds.  The snow is moving through Idaho and into Western Montana now.  A lot of warnings/etc for Washington, Idaho, and Montana. Be safe out there, have fun!

It was at 2" before 8 AM, heavier precip was in the early morning hours. Looks like down in town is at 2.4", seems like a typical contrast with up here. This temp map is interesting though:

image.thumb.png.40ab8cf1e52939012c595821939ff8fa.png

46°F at 18/90 interchange but only 35°F up here (about the same elevations).

Yeah... its 37 here and one of the other stations up here is at 39 now.   But still colder than other areas to our west because the SW wind has not broken through yet.    I think that will be happening later this afternoon.

I hear ya there. Last week was awesome, even with *just* 6'' max depth and 10'' total. An additional week of cold with an inch or 2 here and there would've been epic. I don't need 2 feet of snow, although that is epic in a different way.
