I know the weather is boring right now (at least for E. WA) but can we please avoid vax and politics here, with the exception of if you or someone in your house has it (i.e. 'been recovering from Covid...here's how I feel' kind of deal).

This snow event in Pakistan is absolutely crazy...

I guess in other parts of the world... people are really crazy about snow...

"We were praying God may help us and we shouldn't be perished in a snowstorm."

According to Tariq Ullah, an official in the nearby town of Nathiagali, the blizzard dumped up to 1.5m (5ft) of snow within just a few hours.

"It was unprecedented," he told AFP news agency. "There were strong winds, uprooted trees, avalanches. People around were terrified."

Samina was finally rescued at 10:00 the next morning, spending the night in one of the shelters set up in the resort town, which sits at 2,300 metres (7,500 feet) above sea level.

But among those who died were 10 children, emergency services said, as well as two families of five and eight.

Authorities said eight people froze to death, while asphyxiation after inhaling fumes while trying to keep warm in their vehicles has been given as a possible reason for the others.

Questions are now being asked about how this was allowed to happen.

A tourist trapped in her car for hours by unprecedented snowfall in Pakistan has described how she "saw death" in front of her as she waited for help.

Samina was in one of thousands who rushed to view the winter snowfall in the hilltop town of Murree.

But a blizzard on Friday had felled trees and blocked roads in and out of the town just north of the capital.

Around 1,000 vehicles became stranded, and at least 22 people died, including two large families.

Samina told the BBC she had left her home at 16:00 local time to travel to Murree, but soon found herself among those trapped in the snow. Pictures and videos posted on social media showed stranded cars bumper to bumper, with snow piled on their roofs.

"I could see death in front of me," Samina said. "It was like there were snow peaks built around our car... I can't explain in words what I was going through.

According to the BBC's Farhat Javed - who is in Murree - there is space for about 5,000 cars in the town. However on Friday, 100,000 visitors had been allowed to enter, causing a massive traffic jam as they struggled through the deep snow.

Finally had a totally clear day to see the extent of the snow. You can clearly see where the heavy stuff fell in Eastern WA while it's still holding on in the Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island.

It’s just a guess on my part. I am in the it’s coming (again) camp…but many times it takes a long time for the pattern to reset favorably here. Lots of times we end up chasing the dangling carrot for awhile and it keeps getting delayed.
I’m also basing this on the fact that this fall/winter has seemed a lot like 2016-2017 and 2008-2009. Both of those years had a decent amount of cold and snow to varying degrees and then went on to have decent snow events in the first half of February.

Too bad it can't slide south and bring rain to CA. All will be quiet in Eastern WA, not so much on your side.

Traveling to CA this weekend. Was going to stay here if anything exciting happened (and for safety of course).

Assuming a 10:1 snow ratio, that's 6 inches of precipitation in a few hours, which would be mental even with rain. Assuming 15:1 (which is probably closer to reality, if not higher), that's about 4 inches, which is still insane. That amount of rain falling from the sky would be like walking in a shower, so I can't even begin to imagine what that falling as snow even looks like. That must be about 2ft visibility.

Lot of fluctuations in temps going on across the region just depending on wind exposure. Dead calm and 36 here…28 at JBLM. Meanwhile it’s 45 at sea tac and 46 at Paine field.

Good look, though a bit too smooth to show any significant PNW troughing. Mean ridge position is pretty good.

One huge difference between the EPS and GEFS is the position of the trough axis over the US.  It is way further west than the GEFS.

I can hear the groans of the East Coast weenies right now after that EPS run.  The only place where the run to run change is colder is the far west.
