On a personal note, one of my dogs (My avatar pic is of her.), has been missing for about a week and a half. Her disappearance has baffled me, she's 10 years old, she never runs off, and I was unable to track her at all in the snow. I was worried she had wandered off and fallen in a creek, through the ice on a pond, been killed by the cougar that has been stalking the hill, etc... The worst part was the not knowing. Anyways, my wife suggested today that I search animal shelters, and lost dog postings.

Seems obvious, but the area we live in is so remote, it seemed out of the question she would be at a shelter, we posted on the local facebook page, and no one had seen her, so I had thought the worst had happened. But today we located her at a shelter in Vancouver, not quite sure how she got there, but it is definitely her... They said she did not like kennel life, and has been fostered up in Skamania County and has been LOVING the snow. Such unexpectedly great news, we'll be picking her up this evening. My guess is she made it to the highway, and someone passing through picked her up and maybe the lived up in Clark county so they dropped her off at the shelter up there. Very strange.

Fantastic news!! After the first sentence I had to check the "reaction" to see how people reacted to this post before wanting to keep reading or no. Dreaded it for a moment..... so glad to have this feature on here and very glad your little girl is safe!

I never did any of that, but maybe being 6'5" and left handed really made the difference for me.

If you're good enough, you'll get noticed. How big is your son/what does he play?

Plus showcase tournaments, twitter accounts with highlights, professional video analysis, independent rapsodo readings, etc.  It's tough for a small town or less affluent player to get noticed.  I imagine other sports are similar.

Absolutely correct.  What do you think @jakerepp 2% make it?  1%?

Scouting these days is beyond anything we had back at least in my day.  There are few stones unturned. If you're good enough, you will indeed get noticed.  The question is what are you willing to do to make yourself better than the other guy?  Personal trainers, pitching or hitting coaches, etc?  However, if you are good enough to eventually get on a good college program AND you have the innate mental toughness and self drive to go with the God given natural talent, the staff will do the rest.  Some kids that can't afford all the traveling teams and All Star teams will move to school districts that have stellar programs.  It happened with the Oregon City girls basketball program.  It was one of the best and most successful programs in history.  Kids moved in from all over.  That created its own problems.

All that being said, good talent will be found out.

Sometimes it's just about the journey and not the end game.  Everyone has to ask themselves what the end game is.  Professional?  College career?  It's best to have one or several other career threads to follow as many things can go wrong.    It's a tough road if the end game is professional.  The talent level around the globe is so good and you know scouts know exactly who those talented kids are, it takes a special person to make it.  Enjoy the journey.  You only get to take it once.

God this is so true. I have a good friend who got chewed up and spit out by the Angels organization. It was rough. He learned a lot, but it's so hard to be on the cusp, get that ego boost, then get cut.

On this date 3yrs ago the word of the month was “Retrogression” and Tim along with Kayla were the voice of reason, and Justin was not onboard. Oh Matt and Phil were having a tiff with each other! And it was a warm day!

But also the opportunity to play baseball motivated me to see college through, graduate and start thinking about the next phase in my life. I’ve never missed baseball, but I’m glad it was a big part of my life, and able to help open the doors it did. I coached an 8th grade team one year and that was a blast too, maybe when my sons older I’ll do some more coaching.

But as for Chris s son, I think Jake and Prairie s advice is good. I grew up in a rural area and we didn’t have as many opportunities for showcase teams and stuff in our area (Or that my parents were willing to get me into and drive me to.), but it worked out in the end.

Great article! Lack of places to put the snow is a problem I've never really thought about.

We haven’t had much rain so my pile is doing okay. Looks like most of the snow had melted down in the canyon.

That usually happens in big cities, not places like Leavenworth. I know Chicago used to dump snow into the Chicago River. I think now they can't do that because of the road salt mixed in.

I've plowed snow for 30 years and there's definitely an art to it, you have to plan ahead for future snow and make sure to place it out of the way. Most of the places I did were condos so cars in the way everywhere.  32 years and have never damaged or hit anything.

Looks like SEA set another daily rainfall record... and is now over 6 inches for the month already on the 11th.

Also 8 inches above normal for the water year so far.

Its been just a bit wet around here compared to normal.  Might be a drier period coming... we are way overdue.   😀

I agree, we are due for drier weather. We are not due for more torching (Even up there), but torching begets torching, and it is January. February can't come soon enough.

When I still worked at the large senior community I used both the tractor with the front end loader and and sweeper for all of the roadways and parking lots, we also had a mower with a plow attachment like the one I have at home for the smaller sidewalks that my co worker used. In 2008 I had to use the loader to move the snow banks that I had formed from the sweeper to pile into huge mountains to free up space. Those piles lasted until February of 2009. I worked there full time from early 2006 thru early 2013 (still helped with snow removal and irrigation winterization from 2013 thru 2018) so I had a lot of time to fine tune my snow moving skills to limit disruption to parking, etc since that was a period of many events! Anyway I would get to work at work 4am to start in and would get the large parking lot during the nursing shift change at 6am when the least amount of cars were there. It was a blast! Wish I had more pics of those events.

It was just a lot of fun, probably the most fun I ever had playing baseball. Incredible memories, lifelong friendships, and great stories.

Yup, at that age I thought D-1 or bust. My only opportunities out of high school ended up being a couple of JuCos. Went to Bellevue and that ended up easily the best decision I ever made in my baseball career.
