Anyone have a scoop on Cheyenne WY?

Wife may have a job opp there and I work remote so it doesn't matter where I live as long as it's in Pacific or Mountain time zone.

Looks pretty arid, averages about 60" of snow a year and the record high of all time is 100, so 'cooler' than Spokane.  Record low is -39 so also 'colder' than Spokane.  I'd imagine some Chinook winter warmth like the CO front range and probably Blizzards too

Cheyenne is basically Denver's climate. They're only 100 miles apart. Lots of quick hitting arctic fronts and their blizzards peak in the spring months there. They'll generally see colder airmasses than Spokane, but see less in the way of sustained <32 weather during the heart of winter.

The only thing I know about Wyoming is that it has two escalators, and neither of them are in Cheyenne.

Yeah everyone got a laugh over it.  Though I have seen a video of horses running in the snow, it was pretty high but not that high

I saw that one, looked like it came up to just about the bottom of the saddle, pretty crazy!  That would be fun to ride through, assuming that's not too hard on the horses. I'm guessing as long as it was still in the light/fluffy stage and you didn't push them too hard it wouldn't be too bad.  Never ridden in the snow, all of my horseback experience has either been trail riding in the Appalachians in Alabama or quail hunting down in S. Georgia.

I didn’t see that but did see the one of the deer with only their heads showing.

It's called clown range for a reason.

Looking warm there for the foreseeable future.

It was pretty light snow.  I helped someone whose snowblower broke, so I was glad it was light.  It has compacted quite a bit, and freezing rain will turn it into an ice block soon

Except Cheyenne is 1,000 feet higher, so is significantly cooler.

A little bit, but their winter averages are actually fairly close. The 1991-20 averages show a 39/18 spread for CYS in their coldest month while Denver is 44/18. And CYS is definitely a bit snowier at 63" vs. 49".

no available real estate there, like literally 8 properties on the market.  Cheyenne a little better, around 100

I could see myself (not sure that my wife would like it though) living here in Fort Laramie?
42 acres. Yum! And several hundred thousand less than what our current place is valued at.

Weren’t some folks talking about a long dry stretch coming up?  6 of the next 8 days look to have rain for us. I guess that’s as good as your going to get in January without arctic air or an inversion.

Probably 4 out of the next 8 days depending on where you live. Drier than we’ve seen atleast which is a good thing for south sound and SW WA.

This hurts. Hoping for something in February, no insane signals for a big snow/cold event yet

The 18z depicts a storm from day 3 to day 5 that drops a bunch of snow from the Dakotas all the way down into the deep south (parts of Arkansas and Tennessee see over a foot), then moves up the Appalachians dumping a bunch more snow in the NE, but screwing Phil.

Track kinda sucks for this area. Screaming easterly fetch.

However the GFS is notorious for underestimating CAD here (especially in-situ CAD). Good chance we end up with mostly frozen precip, but a relatively quick changeover to sleet/ZR.
