Fiji is 700km away from the volcano and people still reporting booms and ground/buildings shaking there.

No way this matches Krakatoa. But d**n it must be intense w/ sonic booms now being heard at least 1500 miles away.

For scale, that’s the same distance as Seattle to Chicago.

Stratosphere is ~ 17.5km over Tonga.

Plume height has reached at least 20km now. Looks like the most significant eruption since Pinatubo.
