The thing I like about the progression being shown is we get a bunch of fake cold before the upper level pattern gets really favorable again.  The ECMWF has actually been showing freezing low temps for SEA once that ridge builds just off the coast late this week.

The surface gradients being shown on this ECMWF run are fantastic for some impressive low level cold.  The gradient is persistently offshore, but weak enough to limit mixing for most areas.

Just amazing how the activity over the Pacific totally dies on these recent model runs.  It's like this winter is either balls to the wall raging Pacific jet or just totally dead.  Nothing in between.
