Oh boy, is everyone just searching my name on Google now? There are plenty of mugshots of me you can laugh at.

Could be worse. When I Google my name, I get the former president of the greater London Dungeons and Dragons society, and some minister in eastern Canada who got in hot water for saying some pretty homophobic stuff.

(I can guarantee that neither are me, by the way).

Soooo....anyone have anything interesting happen lately? This can go to the banter thread I guess, but there ain't much going on here right now.

Both my parents have Omicron, but they're fine. The usual mild symptoms. Man alive, it's spreading like crazy.

Cooper turns 3 months old on Thursday. He's hoping for more snow this year.

Anyone else seeing their investments get annihilated lately, particularly the last week or so?

Still awaiting the new 4Runner but while I wait putting together my first road trip with it!!!   Also looking at all the fun addons that I may need for the trip…hopefully storm chasing mid west!
Regarding the market….double digit gains have been unreal these past few years and have definitely spoiled many of us!  So of course frustrating to watch large portions wiped away so quickly.  During the turbulent times in the market I tend to look away as I know in the long run it will prevail.  I will need to look more into stable funds as I age though.

1.06 for the day here….so glad I replaced my rain gauge component.  My measurement are now inline with those around me.

On a personal note, one of my dogs (My avatar pic is of her.), has been missing for about a week and a half. Her disappearance has baffled me, she's 10 years old, she never runs off, and I was unable to track her at all in the snow. I was worried she had wandered off and fallen in a creek, through the ice on a pond, been killed by the cougar that has been stalking the hill, etc... The worst part was the not knowing. Anyways, my wife suggested today that I search animal shelters, and lost dog postings.

Seems obvious, but the area we live in is so remote, it seemed out of the question she would be at a shelter, we posted on the local facebook page, and no one had seen her, so I had thought the worst had happened. But today we located her at a shelter in Vancouver, not quite sure how she got there, but it is definitely her... They said she did not like kennel life, and has been fostered up in Skamania County and has been LOVING the snow. Such unexpectedly great news, we'll be picking her up this evening. My guess is she made it to the highway, and someone passing through picked her up and maybe the lived up in Clark county so they dropped her off at the shelter up there. Very strange.

Sounds like she wanted to escape your warm finger.

I really hated that story for a while. Your initial phrasing made it seem like she was still missing. Glad she's okay an you'll be reunited soon! She's a pretty girl.

That is amazing news! Being in the shelter field for nearly a decade now I can tell you that no matter how remote you think you live always report a lost dog with all of the area shelters, so many times they end up there, someone picks up a dog thinking it is lost when in reality it’s just at the end of their driveway, etc and takes them to the closest shelter where they are put onto stray hold. Once the hold is up they either put them up for adoption, place them into a foster home if they do not shelter well, or get transferred to an organization that either has more space or is a transfer in only shelter like the one I work at. If you lived in certain other parts of the country once stray hold was up the outcome would not be so good.

High Five Friends GIF by IMDb TV

Thank you! It was definitely a struggle.  I was pretty much "forced" to go to college out of high school, its just what you did in my family.  I failed out of my first college attempt the first year, then it was a bunch of start/stops after that as I tried to rebuild my GPA.  When I applied to WGU, I had to order 6-7 transcripts to capture all my credits.  They were going a thing where they waived the application fee which was greatly appreciated because I had to spend about $50 getting all my transcripts sent!

In hindsight, I think I probably would have been better off going into the trades.  I like working with my hands.  Everyone in my family (except one aunt who was in the family by marriage) had a degree and had white collar professions, so I didn't grow up seeing the trades as a viable career path.  The one aunt was a printer, and I actually did that for a few years and loved it.  I apprenticed at a shop in Atlanta, and she had her own shop in Columbus, I would go down and help her when she had big jobs, which was kinda fun.  It was already a dying industry as laser copiers got better and better.  The one downside, anything not printed not centered/oriented correctly on the page jumped out like a sore thumb.  It became a game for me and my aunt...."what's wrong with this print."

And of course that is pretty much a dead trade now.

Any way, I would definitely not recommend the path I took to ANYONE, but I will say "better late than never."

Hmm appear to be 6'1"-6'3"? and left handed? That's the perfect setup for a College scholarship and the Pro's!

I was a 6'1" 225lb's right hander (Pitcher, Center field). Even though I could consistently throw upper 80's and touch lower 90's I was a dime a dozen (especially in the Bay Area) and didn't get any offers. I got to pitch against Pat Burrell and Jimmy Rollins in tournament ball though!

My son has delusions of Division 1 or pro baseball, but he's only 15.  I told him he has the same odds of a snowy January.

I’m big into DeFi and Web 3.0 right now. I invest in “dao’s” and stuff like that. I am in the “wonderland time” project. Down like 30% on the week alone. My brokerage account for stocks is faring a lot better. Crypto can have some crazy swings especially in alt coins.

We chose to invest in our house and now magically it is paid off!  It's a HUGE game changer financially.

Now days you have to play private travelling ball tournaments 24x7 year round to have a chance. Seems like only rich families have a chance now, since most people can't afford the $4k a month needed for their teenagers to play baseball year round.

I was 47 when I finally completed my Bachelor's Degree.  I don't know how old you are, but hopefully that's proof that you are never too old.  I was working 45-50 hour weeks and my youngest was still in high school while I was going t school.

It made a huge difference in my life.  There are many career paths that do not require a degree, mine is not on one of them.  I advanced pretty high up where I was at because of my hard work, but I could not go anywhere else because I could not "check that box."   I finished my degree in 2019 (BS in Business Management), and fall 2020 I found out I was going to get laid off.  Yeah, I was a little concerned, but nothing like the stress I felt during previous layoffs when I didn't have that degree.

I got my degree from WGU, and I loved it.  It's perfect for someone who is working full time, has family obligations, etc.  My wife has been going (she had to take a break) to WGU, and my 25 year old daughter should be graduating this summer.  Hell, I'm even thinking about going back to get my MBA and see if I can land a part time teaching gig there to get a little extra income to boost my retirement.

If you have any questions please feel free to shoot me a message.

Fellow WGU alumni here too! Loved it. Wouldn't have been able to get my bachelor's (in IT) while working and also supporting a wife and young baby without WGU. Worked my tail off to get it but so happy I completed it. First in my family to ever graduate with a college degree. I've since gotten both my brother-in-law and cousin-in-law to sign up for WGU too. As long as you are motivated, it's a great program.

Anyways, go Night Owls!!

All about perspective I guess scoring several highs in the 30s, 10” of snow and a low in the low 20s down there isn’t that bad for what was such a Puget sound/Fraser-centric event

Plus showcase tournaments, twitter accounts with highlights, professional video analysis, independent rapsodo readings, etc.  It's tough for a small town or less affluent player to get noticed.  I imagine other sports are similar.

That's terrific news. She must have had so much fun playing in the snow and got lost finding her way back when all the roads were snow covered. God bless the good Samaritan who picked her up.

It took me 7 years to finish my associates, mostly because I was working and because I was putting off college English for as long as I could. Luckily with Amazon you don't need a degree to move up, but it does help. Also, why would I pass up free money?

Plus showcase tournaments, twitter accounts with highlights, professional video analysis, independent rapsodo readings, etc.  It's tough for a small town or less affluent player to get noticed.  I imagine other sports are similar.

I never did any of that, but maybe being 6'5" and left handed really made the difference for me.

If you're good enough, you'll get noticed. How big is your son/what does he play?

That's terrific news. She must have had so much fun playing in the snow and got lost finding her way back when all the roads were snow covered. God bless the good Samaritan who picked her up.

That sounds like what my old family dog would do. We couldn't trust him off leash at any point in his life, but we would let him run around in the snow in the backyard with us.

Without fail, he would eventually take off into the green space behind our house and I would have to go chase him down. Eventually he would stop to pee or poop so I would always catch him.

For some reason I recognized your name when you first joined, maybe you mentioned baseball early on and I made the connection.

Probably. I know @Prairiedogand I have talked about our baseball paths at various points on here.
