The GFS and ECMWF really like snow for King County tomorrow night.  The 12z ECMWF shows it tonight as well.

I just had to wait outside in a COVID testing line in some of the craziest weather I've seen in a while. Temps plummeted 4 degrees in a matter of 10 minutes, rain turned into torrential hail that turned into some of the heaviest snow I've seen in a while. I did NOT expect that to happen.

I think everyone is so hung up this so called warmup that they didn't realize a new batch of cold air has moved in.  Very anemic warmup by Seattle standards.

Will probably have to wait until February-- easily the most consistent month down here for the last few years at least.

The arctic air mass from last week has been completely scoured out now... even here.     Still chilly... but its an entirely new onshore flow air mass.

They could get nailed on Wednesday night / Thursday.  Fraser outflow in combo with that overrunning.  Nice to see big improvement for the Central Puget Sound vs the 12z as well.

That's my neighborhood! I measured 11" new with 24" total on the ground but it's variable. This is my favorite snow event (Christmas Eve onwards) since I've lived up here. February 2019 was too much at once, I didn't get to play in it, just had to shovel shovel shovel. The only thing that can screw up this snow event is how we get out of it :)

This looks pretty darn epic. I’m glad you’re getting a chance to enjoy it

39 and still raining good in Corvallis. Like an AR but with no subtropical airmass anywhere to the south, seeing as even the Sacramento Valley is struggling to break past 50.

Of course it is also puking snow in the Cascades with 14” of new at Timberline Lodge in just 9 hours. Sunriver getting snow too - I think they’re gonna pull another 2016-17 and have consistent snowpack there into March.

This January is obviously worlds better than any of the last 4 already.  Could end up very decent for many of us when all is said and done.

Maybe another band of interesting precip about to head through Seattle area looking on radar and more to SW. could be kind of interesting today/tonight

I was totally caught off guard by the last band... I'll be closely watching the radar for the rest of today.

Mesowest had a max gust of 69.0 mph at KLMT. Highest since the squall line on 1/19/2016.

Turns out a lot of town lost power earlier, coming back on in sections.
I bet the house we sold lost it too if they had 75-78.

I'm a little confused how few people are talking about our current weather. The atmosphere is incredibly unstable right now, and many people will be experiencing extreme weather today. High chances for thunderstorms, maybe even thundersnow.202201032206.jpg

It’s 39 at BFI and 41 at SEA. Still chilly by Seattle’s standard but last week’s arctic airmass is gone.

Of course.  I think people are more used to the cold just flat out ending around here after a major event.  Not the case this time.

I could see some popup t'storms in that, but with upper 30's I can't imagine a tornadic environment unfolding.

Some graupel, pea size hail and thunder no doubt.

I think that’s mostly because our previous cold snaps happened in February and it was not uncommon for temps to be back in the 50s after the arctic airmass moved out. I think being in the high 40s or 50s this time of year would be considered warm and hope no one was expecting that. I’m liking where we are at right now being in the high 30s, low 40s.

A nice wall cloud or funnel cloud would be a nice touch, but I'm pretty happy with heavy mixed precip and t'storms
