Woah, you have a TRX?

Yes, I'm addicted to fast cars and trucks. I've owned some crazy vehicles but this truck is absolutely amazing. Tows great,  does awesome at the sand dunes, is incredible off road and rides down the highway like a Cadillac.  Driving easy it gets 16mpg on highway.

That's better MPG than my Suburban... (well, before it was stolen)

37 in North Bend with some drizzle.   The starting point out here near the source of the outflow today is quite a bit different than it was on Sunday.

When we got to our gate it's a 1 mile drive to the top of property to the dozer, I hadn't been there to plow at all so the road had 16 inches on it.  I dropped the air in my tires to 15, locked the rear diff locker and punched it. My ram TRX made it to the top! Parts of the drive are a 14% grade lol. STEEP. This truck has 700hp so it has massive wheels speed to just claw your way up, it was fun.

Maybe the only thing cooler (I think I still prefer the TRX though)See the source image

Should be a pretty impressive snowpack up there in time for the inversion, even with the rain and south wind on Friday morning.

Was hoping to see the Euro trend a little weaker with the Tues/Weds system next week. At face value that would put us back to square one for low level cold, at least on the west side.

Is this a natural feature, or something weird with the radar?image.png.5d54bbc511badf9d72addd43336f6721.png

Both! Radar beams hit the terrain around NW Seattle/SW Shoreline, which stands just above 500' high above the Puget Sound (not including our tall evergreens!)

Radar beams are blocked and subsequently create holes and streaks in the radar where there shouldn't be. Closer by to the radar and higher up than this area is the Snohomish county plateau at over 600'. This terrain feature creates some "false positive" returns, where echoes off of terrain reaching back to the radar dome are interpreted as heavy precipitation. All this can be avoided by switching to a higher tilt, which scans at a higher angle. The only caveat to higher tilts is that it loses utility faster with distance from the radar, as it scans higher above the ground faster. Tilt 1 is useful beyond Centralia; tilt 4 is sketchy near Seattle and near useless beyond Tacoma, depending on the meteorology.

Yeah, both it and the Canadian continue to be uglier and more aggressive with the Pacific energy.

Unfortunately would have to lean towards them given the tendency this year (and really the last several).

Awesome, thanks! Yeah, I've seen the spotty reflectivity around foothills (especially around NE Olympics and W Cascade foothills), always figured it was something wrong with the radar.

Unfortunately I agree. The models are pretty sad looking for the next 2-3 weeks right now. As Dewey might point out it is only January 5th, but we are pretty close to being able to write this January off as another epic fail.

Hoping we can stay below 40 today. Going to be a close call here on the southerlies punching through before midnight or not. Think at the very least we will still see some flakes in the air…especially considering how close we are to snow right now.

Control run shows a similar retrogression signal with some backdoor Arctic air by the 20th. It's coming®.

It is extremely close here now. We’re getting heavier precip rates. The rain is about as icy and as close to snow as you can get.
