There’s some very light offshore flow here. Needs to pick up some if we are going to get anything. Even if we don’t score anything today it’s been a pretty remarkable stretch of snow and cold here as it is.

I’ve had three pretty major snow events at 300 feet and a couple miles from the sound in less than 36 months. That’s pretty remarkable. I can’t recall a similar stretch in my almost 60 years in Tacoma and south king county.

Went outside and all the raindrops are positive splats. Rain looks like it’s “falling a bit slower” to me. I definitely think there will be atleast some snow in the air today but I’m more doubtful about accumulating snow than I was yesterday.

I had a positive splat as well this morning!!!   All good and will be repaired in couple hours.  Nothing in car so they were denied

38.6* and light light rain

That I could definitely see.

I was thinking there are some similarities to 2008 into 2009 in that we had the big event, then a little remnant fun followed by the big PNA ridging in January. Ultimately we saw a somewhat ragged period of retrogression…

Yeah, 1984-85 was a similar progression as well,  although that was some steroid fueled blocking that winter and the early February retrogression period wound up being pretty significant in its own right.

Seeing snow in February is possible. Just don't expect another Feb 2019. Maybe something closer to 2018.

Yes please! That was an amazing 10 day stretch. Huge snow to kick off the festivities and then several smaller snow events and COLD!

Yeah we have 48.5” of snow total from February 2019,2021 and December 2021 combined. Not to mention the last 6 winters combined with since 16/17 and there’s 65” total inches of snow! They say it doesn’t snow much in Seattle but there’s been a lot of snow these past few years.

Sometimes worth remembering that we’re simply farther south and have a warmer climate than say, NW WA.

Yeah but most of NW Oregon was slightly above normal in December. So if you adjust for climo we were straight up warmer.

Today is several degrees warmer in the south valley than in Portland, but that has more to do with “Portland has a gorge and we don’t” than anything.

Having been here for a couple months I’m picking up on a couple differences between the climate back home and the climate here. Seems a little warmer in many setups but the average person probably wouldn’t notice a difference.

I have a gut feeling it’s a little bit sunnier down here than back home, but there’s not much actual data to back this up. Probably a much more significant difference between the south valley and southern Oregon proper than between PDX metro and the south valley. Would be great if we had more solid sunshine data to work with.

I would say overall Corvallis is warmer during gorge based setups, but is much colder during inversions or even just sunny day clear night setups. If you look at the long term data for Corvallis and PDX it's pretty similar. But this cold season has seen almost none of the types of setups where Corvallis would typically be colder.

In summer the valley is definitely sunnier and a bit warmer than PDX, though Corvallis does often get a sea breeze the rest of the valley doesn't pick up on, which moderates them a bit compared to SLE.

Well if the snow doesn't pan out, it looks like I've got a decent chance at another sub-40 high temp. Only have gotten up to 37.6 and currently at 36.7. If it weren't for 15 minutes at 40.1 yesterday, it would be 11 straight days below 40. Not sure how warm it will get before midnight.

It's 36 degrees here in Sandy with mixed rain. I live in west end of Sandy. It's snowing on the east end which is 1000 to 1200 feet. The school district here goes from Boring to Government Camp. Yesterday they had a two hour delay and we had no snow.  Before the pandemic, the Sandy area was the second fastest growing town in Oregon. Many people are buying and building homes here way up in the hills and commuting into town. Lots of roads go up to 2500 feet or more. Those places are getting dumped on now.

Every major model shows me getting 2-3" this afternoon and early evening before roasting later.

Will be interesting to see when the roast actually begins.  If it does snow it will definitely last longer than predicted.  I'd bet money on that.

About 20% snowflakes mixed in at 300' here and temperature has dropped from 42 to 38.  Took a drive and at 1,000' its full snow and sticking.

Noticed that not to long ago. 37 in Ridgefield with snow mixing in. I was kind of surprised

It's funny... Our local school had school on Monday and ended up having to release early as we had 4" of snow. Yesterday they canceled school and it just rained all day.

In amounts under 1 foot accumulation I've never seen KCSD close except one of the early Spring events in March 2019.

I honestly don't get why we still put as much faith into the GFS as we do. It's just not very good.
