Ocean temps could take a dump this weekend, but next week should bring recovery. Right now they are fairly warm south of LA County, but a cold tongue is creeping in to the north.

LA Airport up to 80 as reported at 90045! (More like 75 right on the water.) For immediate coastal LA County, that could be considered a minor heat wave.

Some oceanfront towns aren’t feeling it at all: San Clemente reporting a mere 73. They must not be getting the weak offshore gradient like nearby beaches…plus their weather station is on a pier.

104F here at noon, temp has fallen quite a bit since then to only 97F as numerous high clouds have rolled in over us.

Well, that was a bust. All that high confidence of a strong monsoon pulse faded, at least from LA County on up.

Wow! We hit 83. Highest of the season to date. Natural A/C broke this morning as winds are light with only a weak eddy.

It’ll probably drop to 75 in another hour.

Something vicious brewing down in the San Diego County mountains this afternoon. Looks nasty on some of the mountain cameras down there. Absolutely coming down at Mount Laguna, can literally see the large raindrops on camera.

The lingering monsoonal moisture prevented the temperature from cooling down for most of the night here. Outside temp got stuck at 80F and hovered there for a few hours overnight, although it did eventually drop to 72F. Too warm of a night to sleep with any blankets.

It was here too. And the debris clouds started returning last evening.
 

2022 has been shaping up to be 2011’s twin: a generally cool year with some warm spells, and plenty of No-sky July, until the second half of that month when the pattern shifted and the summer roared to life. And it stayed toasty well into October.

Slowly but surely, even with all that La Niña water hanging out between here and Hawaii. 
 

It’s worked wonders for our marine layer clearing especially on the beleaguered Central Coast which couldn’t catch a break the past two years at all!
