The crud is well entrenched into the mountain passes with minor leakage into the Coachella Valley. The polar air mass west of the mountains is keeping cool winds plowing through the Banning Pass.

Drivers: Get ready for some car crashes in the dense fog in the mountain passes and look out for hikers, which may also be obscured by the fog, as they enjoy 45 degree paradise in their shorts and T-shirts.

Well below normal for January. It's possible San Diego won't see 80 degrees until our first fall offshore flow event.

It looks like clouds are thinning out. If we manage to get some reverse clearing tomorrow, some beaches could see their first sunshine since last Saturday, but I wouldn't count on it.

1982-83 was super wet but also had lots of mini heat waves in between storms and the following summer was very hot. We have not had a single heat wave since last Christmas. I want another 2015 summer, but it could end up being like 2010 if this pattern continues.

I always wonder why leaves grow when "spring" is often as cold or colder than winter here. Anyone have a scientific explanation?
