Heat wave incoming mid week, though today will be on the cool side.

How much the beaches will feel it is always a guessing game. Away from the water they’re even saying records could be challenged on Thursday: https://marineweather.net/coastal/point-mugu-to-san-mateo-pt-ca-including-santa-catalina-and-anacapa-islands-coastal-forecast

The last time Santa Maria had a low if 70F was coincidencly was during the 2017 Labor Day weekend heat wave that brought pop up afternoon Thunderstorms to Santa Maria. Looks it could happen again

Digging up my August 2017 weather station data, I recorded 0.35" from thunderstorms here in Murrieta on the 31st. Very hot that week too.

Watch the temperature coming crashing down from 114F to 81F in the afternoon and the rain rate suddenly spike up to over 2" out of nowhere.

2022 has been very 2011 or 2013-like: it was below normal almost the entire year and the heat finally kicked in around the second half of July.

With the ocean warmth holding, coastal areas are almost surely gonna feel the upcoming heatwave. And it’s over Labor Day. Get ready for the most crowded beaches in years!
