2020 and 2018 had dry Februaries. Still having flashbacks of May 2018 and April 2020’s neverending rain.

Up here recently... February 2013 and 2018 were notably dry.   And then we were inundated in April.   There was much more rain in April than February in both years.    I am pretty sure it will happen again this year.

Just barely made it above zero for 10min here today with a high of 1F. Currently -10F.

Went for a nice ski in town during the late morning when it was around -8F and it actually wasn’t too bad besides the frozen nostrils!🤪

I think if we see any type of event it won’t be February 2011 status. I think something will happen too but just not quite as cold or snowy.

1993 was great. Almost a perfect progression for the first 7-8 months of that year.

Bone dry February here with 0.72" of precip, nearly all of which was snow. Big mid month retrogression and cold blast with the snowstorm on the 19th, then back to dry.

Followed it up with an April that had 10" of rain (wettest on record) and a May north of 6" (4th wettest on record). A number of thunderstorm outbreaks and warm/muggy days mixed in there that spring. Then a nice cool midsummer (which still of course had plenty of sunshine). Stayed green well into August.

That was also the year the upper Midwest got pummeled with flooding in the spring/summer. Very unusually active late season jet stream probably influenced in part by Pinatubo.

Jealous.

Had to get through the worst fall/early winter I've experienced since living in Colorado (2006) to get here, but at least the last month has actually felt like winter.

This cold season has been sort of a cross between 2010-11 and 2017-18 here, so maybe that bodes well for some fun later this month for the PNW.

I am highly disappointed in my wife. She just let me know about 20 min ago that the snow had actually started sticking this afternoon but she didn’t think to take a picture of the deck or the wood chips where it was sticking. I might need to file divorce papers.

Hwy 12 in front of my house is finally snow covered after it has been snowing for roughly 6 hours. The sidewalks, cars, etc have been covered for a long time now but it was never quite enough to cover the road and the yards. Sadly it will probably melt before I wake up to take a measurement.

I trust she is sleeping on the couch tonight, or better yet out on the deck!

Or not. Wouldn’t take much of a change in the general ocean-atmosphere circulation to shift heat flows enough to overwhelm AGW signal.

We see it with ENSO in the shorter term, but it happens on the interdecadal to centennial scale as well. We simply lack the ability to simulate it.

Of course there’s not much to indicate a substantial change right now. As long as W-Pacific Warm Pool convection and +NAM/broad z-cell state continues, the theme will be warming. That is an exothermal machine (which does not cool the system on timescales relevant to our lifetimes).

I’d be cool with a March 1993 repeat. ;)
