PNW February 2022 - Winters Last Stand

I didn’t either! The only hope I had was when Michael Snyder was going though the models yesterday he mentioned some moisture re-forming up in this area but with how severe clear it was last evening I didn’t think it would actually happen.

I was just looking at the Abbotsford radar and it looks like the snow made it up to the southern end of Bellingham Bay before getting beat back by the winds.  Looks like there is snow on the ground at the Lake Samish exit and traffic through t he canyon is slow.

Still nothing up where I am at.

Dropped down to -14F here this morning even under a stratus layer and wind throughout the night. Wind chills continue to hover around -30F.

Light snow has also started back up and currently -13F. Think this goes down as the coldest temps I've ever seen snow come down. Will likely struggle to reach negative single digits today.

Hopefully you see some nice clear skies and radiational cooling tonight.

It's looking pretty likely that we will! Wouldn't be surprised to see some insane numbers tonight, probably approaching -35F.

BZN will blow away the record cold high for the day today of 8F and will also likely break the record low for the day before midnight. Pretty good chance that Bozeman MSU also breaks their record low for tomorrow of -25F set back in 1922. Nice to see that we are still capable of breaking early 20th century records!

I agree with Andrew...was expecting way more wind with this.  It started around midnight there, temp jumped but humidity/dewpoint dropped.  Now down to 17, but the temp is 30 with partly cloudy skies.  Peak wind of 17 mph.

Hopefully can clear skies and drop the wind tonight for max cooling.

It's been interesting to see my son's progression about his next steps after graduation.....at first he wanted to leave, but then he decided he was going to stay.  He has a great job at a restaurant in town, and a great side gig for a company that sets up/tears down for concerts in Montana (he did Zack Brown at the Yellowstone Club this past weekend).  He wants to get on the rigging crew doing all of the overhead work.

But then when we talked to him the other day, he said he wanted be moved out graduation weekend, to the point that I would not be surprised if he is pulling a suitcase or handtruck loaded with boxes across the stage as he accepts his diploma LOL!  I'm thinking this latest round of storms might be a factor in that decision.  🥶🥶🥶🥶

I know I was being whiny as usual, but was kind of looking forward to a burst of wind. I’m optimistic about clear skies tonight.

I wasn't here yesterday morning, but the neighbors measured about 1.5" of snow. Yesterday that all melted into 0.3" of rain equivalent so that when I got home just after midnight there wasn't a speck of snow left. Fortunately it looks like there was light snow for most of the night so I picked up 0.75" and everything is white again. Very light snow and 27F currently.

I was out on the Kitsap Peninsula and Bainbridge Island yesterday and had some light snow showers on and off during the day. Then when I was driving through Seattle late last night I encountered just over 1/2" of snow in the north end.

It is 26 here in Sandy. We had a burst of snow around 4 yesterday. I was in Estacada. It was 40. I started back to Sandy. It started snowing hard. Cars were having trouble making it up the hills. Fortunately, I got home OK. After that the snow melted since the ground was still warm. The east wind has shown up and the skies are clearing.

More pics…Because these are the best mornings in the winter! Mid 20’s and light snow. As always there is less snow down at work which is one mile from my house. So glad we did not buy at a lower elevation.

One of the reasons I love California skiing.

I've always preferred cold smoke vs Sierra cement because of the dryness of the snow until it's literally too cold to even ski.

Currently 36F and sunny with temps rising steadily. Looks like we got down to 30F. Pretty normal February day. Not sure what all the fuss is about?

Lol it’s been a lot more than interesting up here as usual.

I mean it’s like four degrees colder in Tacoma there’s an arctic airmass down here too Eugene area is probably one of the best spots on the west side to fall well into the teens tonight

Could've fooled me. Feels like every morning from before the meager system rolled through.

Some of us did get snow though to me that qualifies as more interesting.

We haven't been in the teens since the 2016-17 winter so I doubt it.

The best is days like today where we have a solid Sierra Cement base covering up all the rocks and logs. Then it dumps 12" smoke on top while the temps are still in the teens which is bearable to me when Skiing. 0F and lower and it is to cold to ski.
