Almost January, and look at Houghton, Michigan. One of the snowiest places in the country.

Here we go, the long range supports cold, only to come back to the same old split flow El Nino pattern that is dominating the weather pattern. Gonna take a lot to change it. Highs went from near to below average next week, and already back to above normal and above freezing. January starts out on the "warmer" side here in Michigan. WIth no real threat of accumulating snow for the next week.
This is crazy..went from low 20's to 30's up here. Gfs is even warmer.
SSW canceled, MJO sucks and El Nino. This winter is fully cooked.
Businesses are way down, some just staying closed till trails open. This is gonna hurt. 2 to 3 weeks away from snowmobiles. Swamps are all water no frost in the ground. Lakes have opened up. Friends that have been here 40 50 plus years haven't seen it like this.
For your enjoyment

Pattern is clearly changing. Easy to cherry pick a day or two to make it seem like it's not.
All I'm saying is as of Friday today's high was supposed to be 30...now 45. The coldest high is pushed out to Jan 3rd at 32 now. These temps have been pushed out since Dec 16th and keep getting pushed out. Yes a pattern change will come, but to say I'm picking a day or 2 is kinda comical at this point. Sorry for the bad example.

40 on the 29th. Looks like the pattern change keeps running away!

This is pretty neat. How do you take care of this. I am assuming it must take a lot of effort.
Hours and hours and hours. Snowblower, zamboni, shovels, fire hose.

Still in the 40's and 50's at the end of the gfs run around New Years. I know I know it's out there, but the odds of a large scale cool down look to be about 0 at the moment. Second or third week of Jan, maybe. Bars and restaurants starting to get pretty antsy atm.

gonna make a mess of the rink. just an unreal start to winter. Lack of snow is one thing, but 6 days in the 40's is nuts

1/2" of sleet and snow. Down to a frigid 31

Would be curious to see what changed in Muskegon in the 90's. Was pretty lockstep in temps with the others till then, and then a large jump. Also interesting the current avgs are close to those of the 50's

I sas hoping to go snowmobiling up in Eagle River the first week in January. Really starting to doubt if it's going to happen...
Gonna need a lot to happen. Pur 2" of snow held tough till about noon today in the woods. Bare ground everywhere now. Water on top of all the lakes. Looks like March. it can change in a week, but sure seems the extended offers little hope before the 29th

I know it's early, but we are so far behind. I just don't see anything good out of this winter. We're looking at 2nd week of January before trails open and that might be optimistic.

Hope we cash in on one of these and then some lake snow. Not being greedy just give us enough to open trails!
