  1. Quite the map of orange and red colors well into Canada for nearly the end of October
  2. Here’s an update from Jim on his winter forecast for our area. I could definitely like this with more snow thrown in though
  3. After the active pattern through Wednesday, the GFS goes quiet and warm all the way through the end of the run on the 26th.
  4. Anyone notice how “quiet” the hurricane season has ended up being for the US?
  5. latest GFS has 70s to low 80s here all the way through the end of the run (3rd week of October)
  6. 79.5 here in MBY and almost no wind. Absolutely gorgeous! No precip this week so it looks like this all falls next week then.
  7. SPC talking about severe weather next weekend. Hopefully start of the 2nd season for severe weather
  8. What looked like a cooler week next week with highs forecast around 70 multiple days, has been replaced with mid 70s and warming towards 80 by the end of next week.
  9. Definitely not the fast start to fall predicted…. October looks the same but at least it looks wetter.
  10. Had .78" of rain overnight. We were right on the edge of the rain and storms as parts of west Omaha had nothing. My wireless rain gauge showed 1.37" of rain with .80" in only 10 minutes!! Not sure why it was so off, but it seems to happen randomly. I always compare it to my good old fashioned Stratus rain gauge for the accurate number. Now it's sunny and warm even though there was an 80% chance of rain today.
  11. Looks like we’ll make a run at 90 Sun-Tues. I swear there were claims of a fast start to fall….
  12. About as boring as you can get for a 7 day forecast. Dry and above average temps... Tonight Clear, with a low around 47. Calm wind becoming southeast around 5 mph. Thursday Sunny, with a high near 77. Light south wind increasing to 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph. Thursday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 55. South wind around 6 mph. Friday Partly sunny, with a high near 70. West wind 6 to 13 mph becoming north northwest in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 23 mph. Friday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 48. North northwest wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable in the evening. Saturday Sunny, with a high near 78. Saturday Night Clear, with a low around 53. Sunday Sunny, with a high near 84. Sunday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 58. Monday Sunny, with a high near 86. Monday Night Clear, with a low around 59. Tuesday Sunny, with a high near 84. Tuesday Night Mostly clear, with a low around 59. Wednesday Sunny, with a high near 81.
  13. I agree. It was god awful so many times this summer. I still remember when it had like a week straight of 100+ temps and multiple days of 110+ and we never hit 100 once. It's not even off by 5 degrees or less, usually 10+ degrees off.
  14. Nowhere near 100 today. Much more humid than forecast and the Smokey skies again kept the temperatures down to 91.0 for the high. Dew was around 70 all day.
  15. Forecast has been bumped up to 99 now for Saturday.
  16. 50.4 this morning on my weather station. Coldest low since June 2nd. Might hit 100 this Saturday, which would be something for mid September! I'm seeing some early talk of winter forecasts from a couple of local mets, and they are referencing years where we were pretty dry for snowfall amounts, like less than 20" total. Kinda expected given the 50" we had last winter.
  17. According to my records on my weather station, except for one day on 6/20, this is the first day since 5/27 with strong, gusty winds out of the NW. We've had windy days since then, and days with winds out of the NW, but not a combo of the two of them after the passage of a cold front.
  18. Here's my monthly summary for my backyard. Avg low: 66.4 (+.8) Avg high: 87.6 (+1.8) coldest low: 55.0 (2nd) warmest high: 96.8 (23rd) precip: 4.93" (+.33") Like almost everyone else had a hot and muggy August with 10 days over 90 degrees and multiple days with dews in the upper 70s and even low 80s. Up to 34 days this summer with highs over 90 now. Max heat index on my weather station was 112.5. It was mainly hot, humid, and dry to start the month, but the last 10 days were more active. Had 3 severe tstorm watches, 4 severe tstorm warnings, a flash flood warning with severe flooding downtown Omaha, and 5 days of heat advisories. Only had 1 day with measurable precip the first 19 days.
  19. I put together a short clip of the big hail we ran into up in SoDak on 8/22. The storm was “only” warned for quarter sized hail and I don’t mind driving into that. But the storm was strengthening rapidly and we ran into ping pong to golf balls. Saw on the SPC a report of baseballs about a mile from where we were at!
