We still had about 3 inches of thawed and refrozen old snow leftover from the past few events (we're pretty shaded here so it takes awhile to thaw fully), now just over an inch of fresh stuff and I can see it's finally starting to dust the trees.

Thanks.  Just checking to see if SK will maybe be late again.

Still snowing here, outside of Port Orchard up 500 ft. Bounces between moderate and heavy and then back again. One weather app has finally caved and given us snow until midnight, then rain through the morning. Pretty sure I'll be staying up to see if we get a changeover then; too invested now.

How much do you have on the ground?

  3. I will say in all my years of driving the roads may have been about the worst this morning.  Definitely should not have taken the usual backroads to work from Gig Harbor to Manchester.  Winding hilly roads and not to far from the sound, but usually a few minutes quicker.  35 degrees and roads were mostly bare and a little bit of slushy snow at my place but within a mile from my house it was pretty bad and only got worse.  Looks like the most snow from last night was probably an inch or less, and the black ice was insane.  Looked at doppler and it showed rain for an hour or so after it snowed earlier.  The black ice seemed to be fairly thick from the freezing rain.  The local "Banner jump" area was insane.

That station is likely on the edge of the Hood Canal cold pool. As its perimeter oscillated inwards, warmer southerlies were allowed to overtake the observation site, and the thermometer warmed as a result. Temps could crash there again as the boundary moves randomly over time

Just the heavy precipitation can also effect temp by 3 or 4 degrees also.

I'm not too familiar with the greater metropolitan Yelm area, but Bellingham runs into that a lot, the city itself is rainy and 40, but parts of the school district are 1,000-1,300 feet, or are on the north face of hills and don't get sun to melt the roads, so the roads are still really sh*tty.  It sucks for the majority of students but I guess they have to account for everyone.

We're late also (South Kitsap).  County wants to get the nasty side roads and side walks done.  Didn't get above freezing til today.

Who would have thought the Ducks would have a few good baseball teams? I still remember when they started their program. I mean they aren't exactly Oregon State with their recent titles, but considering all the rain that the WV gets, you'd think it would hamper their ability to get solid talent.

I know it was a quick rise to the top.  My nephew is going to pitch at Oregon State.  He won the family genetic lottery, quickness, coordination, strength and he's 6-3.

I'm okay with 7 inning doubleheaders. We had those in college. The whole analytics thing is interesting. It gives you a better chance to win, but it also ruins the game and makes it unwatchable. And what's worse is most guys don't even try to hit away from the shift.

Drives me crazy that they can't just bunt away from the shift.  It reminds me of when people have those unwritten baseball rules like not bunting to break up a no hitter.  If the guys unhittable you have to figure out a way to get on base anyway you can.

So are you saying the Yankees spend too much money with unchecked spending, trying to buy a WS? that their almost $200,000,000 budget hasn't gotten them a WS since '09?  Can't stand them.  I'd love to see them get clipped.  There's a couple other teams in that group too.

Hard to compete if you're a small market.  Oakland just keeps selling high, buying low in the hopes of finding a Marlins-like combo of players.  Money Ball.  That's not working either right now either.

Go M's.  For once they have a great farm team and some money to spend.

The money ball thing worked for a bit until everyone else is doing it too.  Small market teams have to be lucky to win and then the guys that pan out leave in a couple yrs and you have to start over.  There is enough luck in it all that you're not guaranteed a title, but I find it hard to believe they can't get titles more often with lineups of all stars.

Hard to imagine they would leave fans hanging after all of the problems people have endured the last couple of years.  Who knows though.  It kind of ticks me off they don't think the obscene amount of money they make is enough.

Baseball needs to buck up and have a salary cap.  I'm so tired of the season starting with only 1/3 of the teams with a realistic chance.  The NFL had most of the teams this yr still in the playoff hunt with a couple weeks left and it's still crazy for Sundays games.

Biggest 24 hour snowfall I’ve seen here at my house was 9” from noon February 8th to about 10am February 9th. Even that was pretty awesome. Then 5” in 2 hours the next night...and 6” the day after that!

That was really crazy how the warm nose stalled in that storm.  I live just across from N Tacoma in Gig Harbor at 370' and we ended up with 17".  Even a mile down the road from me it rained for hrs while we were still getting snow.  About 5 miles North of my place in Olalla there was probably another 5 or 6".  Never changed over in Port Orchard.

  11. As I get older I'm getting more tired of the rain and lack of snow in the sound.  I will say I loved my yrs in Pullman going to WSU.  The winters were great with more snow, less rain and more sun.  However the springs were really cold, which might have been a positive since I was usually behind in my studies by that time and was forced to study more and drink less beer.  But I do love my indie music. I live on a couple of acres and drive less than 30 minutes to see great bands for $20 which is very rare.
