Excellent score for all down south. Still windy as all get out with little to no precip so taking this as our typical sign that we won't see anything meaningful. With that, I'm headed to bed to see what awaits in the morn.
Good luck to all the night owls enjoying the splats!

Winds still cranking, but aside from a few stray flakes, nothing at the surface here. Blown to smithereens!
Wind advisory out now for EPSL, up to 50 mph gusts (seems about right!).

Winds are cranking non-stop here. 40mph gusts and consistent 20-30mph sustained winds. Pretty fun wind night.

37f but roads are way colder and freezing up
36.5 here and the same. Moisture from earlier is icing over neighborhood roads & sidewalks.

Oh crud. That can’t be good.
Happened earlier today and we haven't frozen over yet, so I think we're good? Last I heard, restoration in progress.
100% what caused the PSE notice to go out though

Just got an email from PSE.
Jackson Prairie went down completely earlier today. Big natural gas facility, supplies a lot of power to the west coast.

Reporting 22°F... minimal snow yesterday, everything that was coming down was dry crystally stuff and minimal accumulations on road surfaces. Flowerbeds have a nice white shiny look to them, so yay?

And wind just started picking up here - it's time to ride!

I've been so slammed with life that I've only got cursory glances at the forecasts since New Years... part two of the January thread? It's only the 7th! What happened to Pt 1??
...I see I've been missing out on a lot.

34 here. The fog has gotten shallow enough that you can see the stars above
35 at mine. Fog's cleared out, visibility is once again crisp and the stars are out.
So are the planes on approach to SeaTac. Welcome sight after the super low-vis fog earlier this evening, driving was a little fun in that.

Rain is still going here but we avoided a catastrophic overflow at all the sites

We are far enough north to "grow" our own cold.
Putting a second meaning to the Seattle Freeze. We're making our own chilliness both in temperament and in temperature!

Can confirm. I'm high enough here to be at the top of the fog layer in the morning the past few times, but everywhere else I'm delving right into the fog and frost/ice to get anywhere. Looking forward to my drive in the morning (not).

Truth. I left Auburn about 2 and it was still complete pea soup until I got east and high enough to get out of the fog layer.

From what Tim told me you can eat off the sidewalk downtown now.
This had best not be jinxing this upcoming summer.
Heat dome bad.

Yeah... getting pretty bare out here now too. Particularly with the wind last weekend and the east wind the last couple of datys.
Yep. It may just be perception bias while I've been swamped with things, but I think the hard freeze a few days ago got rid of the last of the leaves still to hanging on. Got all the leaves raked and out before that freeze hit and now everything is barren.

Still hanging on in the Seattle area... screen shot from earlier today
Can't say the same down in the SE corner of King Co. Looking a lot like winter around these parts, foliage is pretty much gone now.

Smoke cleared up rapidly here. Hello, onshore flow!

You must be on the east side or near Seattle. Smoke seems to be concentrated in the central sound and near the foothills for now. It’ll probably be mostly gone by this evening.
I'm east and a little bit north of Tacoma treading the edge of the foothills. Due north of Enumclaw.
Hopefully the quick clearing for you will translate well here later today

Marine layer has pushed in this morning and the AQI is down to 59 here. I don’t think the AQI ever got above 200 and the smoke was only here for less than 48 hours. Could’ve been a lot worse. Will probably be in the green in the next few hours.
Quick. At a solid 150 AQI right now. Looks very red and hazy out still. Highest reading last night was probably about 220 or so.

February 2024 Weather in the PNW

If the stars somehow lined up, I'd believe it. Crystal is in such a weird place that it takes just the right combination of conditions to make true magic happen.
