Today will be a rare flash freeze.
In the middle of the day no less!

Just measured and it's 1.5" on the top of the recycling bin. 1" on the pavement. I'll go with the higher
Snow has lightened significantly now, but the intensity moves around quite a bit. Down to 30.9.

It's about to hit SeaTac

It is absolutely nuking and puking snow. When do we expect the precip to end? I'd say it's snowed about an inch since starting.

It is 8:35 and like magic it is all (wet) snow, zero rain! The roommate stays home. I win, we all win! Now let the northerlies barrel on down south.

LOL meanwhile it 43 at SEA. Euro was correct in the warmth of the southerlies, but not in the strength of the return of the northerlies.

33.3 and it is officially a snow/rain mix!!!! I convinced my roommate to wait an extra 15 minutes before driving to Redmond. If it switches to full snow by 8:35, he'll WFH. I hope for his sake he does so because that could be a gnarly return.

It's 34.2 now! Dropping like a rock. mPing shows rain/snow at around 130th in Seattle now. It's close.

Temp is crashing now. Down to 35.4

Looks like both station near me are down to 36 from a peak of 37. mPing shows snow reports right on the Snohomish/King county line in Shoreline. C'mon!!
-
If northerlies are posed to return shortly - perhaps this is the final southerly spike. SEA just jumped to 39, while nearby to me it went from 35 to 37 in 10 minutes. But Bremerton is back to northerly?

I have no regrets going against the Euro! Sometimes you gotta make that call and accept the burn! It could’ve truly been a historic storm for Seattle.
Haha, how many times have we said this!
There's always February...

Looks like the snow/rain line is somewhere between Edmonds/Lynwood. Maybe along SR 524.
It's now 35 here on 65th in Seattle, but I am seeing a lot of 33s, as close as 90th. NE Seattle always has somewhat of a subtle east wind influence, because I am seeing 35s all the way to 145th in NW Seattle.

Update... I think we know the center of the low is over Ozette Lake.
46 degrees with a SW wind to the south of the there and 23 degrees with a NE wind just to the north!
Snowmizer mentioned the low might slide SE across the Olympics, any chance that occurs?
I am in 'the grasping at straws' denial stage still.

God damnit. It is 33.1/32.7 and raining. SSW 12 at SEA and 37 - they are definitely in the warm sector. Maybe I have a chance to turn to snow with heavier precip? Who am I kidding. Ugh.
At least I'm fully awake and can get some work out of the way to follow any backwash. If we are so lucky to taste those scraps the weather gods throw at us. Nothing like waking up at 4 for rain
-
Was even possible to tell from satellite imagery that the low was strengthening?
-
Woke up and looks like it’s still 32.5 at most stations in the neighborhood, so that’s a positive sign. SEA IS 34/32 with SE winds, so still some easterly component there. It’s since accumulated snow on roads here.
The bad news is that there’s not much precip out there… did I wake up too early?
-
.8” of new snow accumulation. Closest station reads 32.4/31.6 with NE 1. Very light snow and some mist.
Might go to bed early and wake up at 4 to track snow (hopefully!)

What is HQM-SEA right now?

The thing I like the least is how so much of the moisture early in the game is north of Seattle. When the models originally picked up on this it was a lot different. This one stings a little bit.
I think we have a realistic shot at a couple of inches behind the low when the cold air collapses into this area.
More shocking than any model or obs going into this event, is your last minute lack of optimism! Genuinely surprised.

I am quite surprised at the rate which this snow equivalent of heavy drizzle is accumulating. Already a thin layer recovering roofs, cars, grass, and anything else elevated. I don't have a thermometer, but it's clearly below 32.

It is precipitating here, but it's so light and small, I am unsure if it's a drizzle mix or just all very tiny flakes.*
JAYA is onboard and I am letting myself believe. Feeling genuine "its coming" excitement for this snow event for the first time.
*JK - it is fully snow here. Flakes increased in size now, there's no doubt about it.

We want a 12/26/21
What obs would one look at to track that? BLI-SEA gradient?
