Portland skated by with a +9 on the day.
Eugene put them to shame with a +14.
It got to 68 at my location. What a pleasant surprise. One of the warmest January days I've ever felt and likely one of the warmest January days ever in Eugene. The airport site is often a bit cooler than the rest of town and only made it to 65.
-
63 in Eugene right now. Feels even warmer than that. The lawn seems to be suspiciously greener than it was a couple of weeks ago.

It's late January. I think I'm going to try to grow a mango plant this summer, then post of bunch of pictures of it dying in late July because our summer climate is too cool overall to sustain a tropical plant. Then I will claim that this is a sign of fall.
There are a couple of dozen palm trees in Eugene. Most of them look pretty sickly though. A couple of decent ones exist however.

Based on the 18z, I might be able to scrape off enough snow off my car to make a single snowball. I'll probably pee on it though because i love yellow snowcones.

Population is ~135,000, with an elevation averaging 430ft.
Not to nitpick, but your link says 160k, not 135k. The metro area is over 250k. That being said, we're obviously not a major city.

Crazy to think that with all the records being broken by the snowstorm in the east (Baltimore, NYC, etc), that Eugene's biggest snowstorm tops them all. It can happen here.
Here's a decent write up on that Eugene storm:

Whoops. Meant to reply to Andrew.

Lots of heavy rain up here this morning! Things are wet.
There were signs everywhere that said to stay off the ice, but there were a few ice huts out there anyway.

I went snowmobiling at Diamond Lake this past weekend. There is exactly one shitload of snow there.

33 degree rain. Yay! Full on craptastic out at the moment.

That -10 blew my mind...
I was gonna drip the faucets before going to bed, but the pipes were already frozen. 3 of my friends around here also had frozen pipes. One of those busted, causing some damage. Can confirm that it was quite cold, but it only got to -2 at my house.
-
Didn't you get a few inches on Dec 14, 2008 though? You also had a good snow event in January 2008 which is winter everyone else on the I-5 corridor got nothing but cold rain and snow mix.
Yes. We got about 3 inches on 2 different occasions in Dec, 2008. That's nothing compared to the 18" or so and 2 straight weeks of snow on the ground for pdx though.
-
You have no right to be disappointed after March 2012, Dec 2013, and Feb 2014. Eugene has kicked our a$$ lately.
We royally got the shaft in 2008 in what was probably the biggest event in the northwest since 1969. I would easily trade March 2012 & Dec 2013 for that action.
-
What a massive disappointment. Still haven't seen a flake down here since Feb 2014. All we got is a crappy layer of very frozen sleet. Now there's some freezing rain. Gonna have to scrape off the vehicle and head to the liquor store soon to drink away my sorrows.

Winter weather advisory!
If I hadn't taken the 10 seconds to post the link, I would have beat you to it. Lol.

WWA issued for central/southern Willamette valley for 1-3" of snow & freezing rain. PLEASE let this verify. I haven't seen a flake down here since Feb, 2014!

Well I'm happy to be wrong about the inversion so far. The NWS had predicted nothing but fog & freezing fog around here for several days in a row. However, the fog broke this morning at around 10am and we had a beautiful day down here with brilliant sunshine, like the rest of the NW. We seem to get socked in worse than anywhere else during inversions, but this is a super dry inversion which I have no problems with. It is crystal clear, 30 degrees and calm here at the moment.

I'm pretty much as big a weather weenie as anyone on here. Been that way since I was about 8 years old. No, I don't understand the models like some of the weather einsteins on here, but I do follow them and understand them to some degree. All of my friends and family consider me weird, dorky, yet ask me what is really gonna happen. Usually, I have the answers.
Here's what I don't get. How the f*ck can you guys enjoy fake cold inversions?? They are terrible. Down here in Eugene we seem get the worst of them. I'm looking at a week without any sunshine, rain, wind, or anything other than scraping my windshield. I hate it. I LOVE real cold and snow. I look at the useless long range gfs every update.
There is one redeeming factor for the fake cold. I left a wheelbarrow out in the yard that is filled with rainwater. How big of an ice cube will it make?

(we lived on a sloping hill)
Fortunate break that you had a sloping hill. Those are much better for sledding than a typical flat hill.

I love that live north bend cam!! looks like the snow is getting better there. The roofs are turning white.
Google was my friend.

Looks like the ski resorts should be set until spring, barring any sort of long, extended warm rain event that lasts for weeks.
