  1. Seems like as good a time as any to rejoin the forum. Got a bit of snow/ice pellets here in Victoria last night, but doesn't look like anything stuck around. Further up island around Nanaimo it looks like they'll have a nice snow covering going into this cold snap. It'll be interesting to see if it actually gets as cold as prog'd this week, heights (at least in the north) are forecast to be 5-10 dm higher than the event back in December, which usually correlate with sub-freezing daytime highs up here without extensive snow cover. Regardless the air is definitely going to be super dry, which should bode well for next weekend if the timing of the precip doesn't keep getting pushed back.

Here's the cams around Nanaimo this morning:

Great to have another fellow Canadian aboard the forums.

I feel there's some very real potential for snow squalls for east Vancouver Island tomorrow. We'll see, but conditions do seem pretty ripe for an event like this.

  2. Our favourite model (the NAM obviously) has 1000-500mb thickness down to 516 for Vancouver BC by Monday evening. Flurries on the coast possible Sunday/Monday

EDIT: If some cities get even an inch of snow cover before the brunt of the 'cold crisis' this very well could be a colder, more sustained event for several cities when compared to December's memorable event.

    Time to start blogging.

  3. I'm sure they will reopen. They have two months where they can still score some dumps. People in Vancouver Island would be willing to go late in the season given how snow starved it has been, so they would be smart to open whenever they can. I'm just surprised because I have always found Mount Washington to be one of the snowiest in the southern BC region. I can't believe they didn't open until Jan.12!

I have medium to high confidence Mt. Washington will re-open by mid-month as well: http://50shadesofvan.com/blog/2014/1/30/a-toast-to-a-fresh-month

Heck, next month is looking a whole lot more dynamic, and interesting when compared to the past two tranquil weeks.
