  1. Important to keep in mind that AirNow averages over the past six hours or something along those lines.
  2. I find the Spokane AFDs tend to be more fun to read—and much clearer for a layperson—than Seattle’s.
  3. It’s uncommon, but early November does happen from time to time for places like Baker and Crystal. Crystal even soft-opened one year for a single day on October 1. Stevens and Snoqualmie tend to wait. Either way, these forecasts are just projections on a map. We’ll have to see how the forecast plays out first.
  4. Thanks for the smoke analysis, @NWbyNW. Glad we don't have to wait for the rain for things to clear out!
  5. Decided to do errands over in Issaquah today to get out of the smoke and while it is 84° right now over here, I will say it does still feel like fall with the sun angle. It just feels like fall normally feels until early October over in Spokane, not in western Washington.
  6. Such a weird smoke map right now. NE Seattle is fine while NW Seattle chokes, and all is well around Lake Sammamish, even though last night that was the worst place to be.
  7. It's just what the experts say! Of course, aside from a few high-impact fires, this fire season was much improved over the past few years.
  8. Well, it's also important to note that the wet spring probably played a bit of a role. Lots of fuel growth in the spring, then a record-dry summer...doesn't lead to good fire outcomes.
  9. The comparison to northern California (places like San José or Salinas) is extremely apt this fall. Super warm with cool mornings, and almost no fall color like usual. Almost a Mediterranean feel.
  10. Oh, of course – I was referring to the comments referencing the GEM. Thanksgiving is good but we do get earlier openings from time to time. Late October and early November build Opening Day snowpacks.
  11. Rain is really necessary to stop the endless smoke improve air quality across the state. And some of us like to ski!
