  1. This is some embarrassingly lame trolling.
  2. Got several "it's gonna ice storm?"s and "what's freezing rain?"s, as well as a couple "I can drive on snow, I'll be fine."s Begged one of my best friends to not leave for work tomorrow morning, but he insisted he knows how to drive in the cold. It's a real problem... People have no idea. It's been two and a half decades since the last impactful ZR event in Seattle, and one since the last event at all. People don't even know what it is, let alone the magnitude of what is coming.
  3. Welcome! Choosing both sides of the preference wars I see.
  4. As a young lad being driven home by my mom after elementary school, I would have her drive different routes home so I could see the water draining on the sides of the street. Of course she obliged in stride, the excellent human being she is.
  5. Yeah we'll be waiting a while longer. Sad.
  6. "Authorities apprehended Marriott at SeaTac airport early Friday morning after he was found climbing the observation tower with a blowtorch."
  7. But the southerlies only arrive into the area by overcoming the cold offshore flow hugging the surface. If it is too aggressive with mixing out those surface easterlies, a transition to southerly flow may be delayed entirely.
  8. *ECMWF runs 8F too warm* Tim: "This should not affect the ultimate outcome of this snow event." *ECMWF runs 2F too cool* Tim: "Winter is fuckking over. Pack your bathing suits boys, we're boating on Lake Sammamish "
  9. KSEA was running a 23F high on 12/27/2021 until it spiked to 27F for no discernable reason just before midnight. Definitely airplane exhaust. Glad we're not even waiting a full year to have another shot at it... And this time the airfield and its pesky 900F exhaust will be downstream of the KSEA obs site due to easterlies
  10. This may be the most disgusting way to break your streak. You won't have to wait another 6 years after this, I promise. Maybe not even 6 weeks... And it'll come with epic COLD and SNOW
  11. A 23/18 day at KSEA. If that high holds, it will be the coldest high temperature since 12/29/1990!
  12. Life is never over until it's over and every moment of it is precious, good and bad. Still tho I hope I just stop aging at 25
  13. Tried the same thing with a barrel of hydroxychloroquine and radium from 147 smoke alarms, and all I got was a visit from the FBI
  14. Lawl at Casper WY and MT State, does carbon dioxide even exist out there?? More than a degree of cooling in the last decade and now some all time record lows being set. That just doesn't really happen anymore on the planet. If you were a forest dweller in that area living adjacent to the internet and modern life, you'd think the globe was cooling! lmao
  15. Didn't know Rich Marriot dabbled in gambling
  16. Chris's comment that I pinned is actually coming in pretty handy this morning. Since it's a copied and pasted image, it is constantly being updated to what it shows on the NWS mesoanalysis website. It's essentially a live tracker as Chris intended, great idea.
  17. Bucket list item!! But as someone who has never been in subzero weather (0F in the Gorge in Dec 2008 is my record) I could not imagine tolerating -40F weather. But I'll try one day for sure! Also good on uploading the video correctly, it's an embedded media artifact, not just an attached file
  18. It was a subtle difference I noticed between Seattle and North Bend, based off the colors and the overall brightness of your photo. Not a big one and only really noticeable for select portions of the day, maybe 10-20 mins, but it's there.
  19. Huh. Noticeably brighter at your place. Curvature of the earth will do that. You'd think it would be a uniform brightness west of the Cascades but we forget that the Puget Sound is pretty wide. Snow reflecting the sunrise off the mountains and back down to you really helps too.
  20. Seattle kind of gets a hodge-podge of everything. What a mess
  21. An absolute beast for the northern Rockies and high plains.
  22. My area kind of fell under the Snoqualmie River Valley east wind finger, so we stayed a bit warm. But areas to my immediate north away from the winds did drop to around 13-15F. Lots of 11-13F readings around Bothell, and a couple single digits in the Redmond Highlands. Great stuff.
  23. Only got down to 16F as raging east winds ramped up overnight. Stayed clear though! As always, it's always one detail away it seems... Next time KSEA notching a fairly pedestrian 18F but with a dewpoint of 1 and easterlies gusting well over 30mph, it's hard to say this lower level airmass isn't an absolute beast.
  24. 16F! Going to try and get a few hours of sleep now
