Came down pretty decent for a bit but at the worst time with morning rush. Maybe 1/2-3/4” of snow on the ground

1 year ago today. The craziest December weather event I’ve ever experienced. It outperformed any expectations I had. Was able to document one tornado as it raced away at 70-80 mph. It made it to 73 degrees here in Omaha and we had a high wind warning all day for gusts to 75 mph. Over 100 confirmed tornadoes with a couple dozen rated EF-2. There was a very large grass fire in Kansas with the smell of smoke in the air carried several states away. When it rained briefly here, there was so much dirt and dust in the atmosphere that most objects were covered in dirt AFTER the rainfall. When I took out my outside Christmas tree decorations a few weeks ago to set up, there was still dust that was falling off the trees! https://www.weather.gov/oax/dec1521

Not to mention, the bitter cold while better for ratios is going to probably be much drier than the models are picking up on.

While a better run on the 0Z GFS, it’s pretty obvious that at least according to that model we’re heading towards a dominant northern branch/NW flow pattern which normally never performs that well around here. Not a single big system coming up from the southwest. Hoping for juiced clippers is a poor thing to rely on. Points north and east of Nebraska do better than we do in that type of pattern.

34 degrees and a tstorm just moved through. Glorious weather indeed.

Snow maps <290 hours are no better than 384 hour maps for accuracy either. For clarification purposes my “Lolz” are at the big snow hole continuously showing up over Nebraska, not calling anyone stupid. You shouldn’t be so offended either, calling them clown maps is a phrase as old as time.

.2” of snow so far this year and somewhere between 2-6” of snow over the next 16 days doesn’t exactly get a person that excited. But hey it’ll be cold

Already watches issued for the Dakotas for next week, Monday night thru Wednesday. Seems like it's early to issue watches, but at this point things seem to be pretty locked in for that part of the country.

Back to reality and no snow for the next 16 days for me on the 0Z GFS.

Luckily we’ve been all rain/sleet here. Right when the convective showers started to form I had one pass over our house and drop some heavy sleet and ice pellets for a couple minutes. Here’s the tail end of the heavy rates IMG_4116.MOV

Holy crap!! 3”/hr snowfall rates in Sioux Falls!!

Ended up with a whopping .10” of rain.

It’s a race to get above freezing here. Precip hasn’t started and is supposed to arrive later then expected. Dropped all the way to 17 this morning but back up to 25 and rising pretty quickly. Either way, what once looked like a 1/2” of moisture is now down to .1”-.2” tops on most models.
