Phil, if nothing else, I truly appreciate the fact that you can create sentences that make no sense whatsoever to me, while also making those sentences exciting to read. Truly a gift.- 9819 replies

PNW January 2023 Observations and Discussion

To be fair to this month, I'll take this January 100% over...was it last year or the year before where we were stuck under a foggy, windless inversion for what seemed like forever and our air quality tanked through the basement? -

Reverse searing some steaks, then sealing with a nice glaze of butter/garlic/Italian parsley -

3rd wind event here to give me 50mph winds. Here's hoping the trees hold up, because the last one left us trapped in our neighborhood for a few days. At least we never seem to lose power -

Spent the day in Brian's neck of the woods. Gorgeous out in Leavenworth currently and the drive down Tumwater canyon is just...special when there's feet of snow along the Wenatchee River. I'd live there in a heartbeat if I could- 9819 replies

We were gonna spend Christmas Eve there but the pass closed before we got in the car I had to improvise a dinner, and lemme just say prime roast are CHEAP on Christmas eve.

Well based on solar activity we likely aren't in GSM and won't be until the 2030's

Has there been an accurate long-range forecast wince the summer? I seem to remember them all being grossly wrong so far. Most of them tried to do away with the blocking regime that we had been stuck in until last week all the way back in September. Something is really throwing models off more than normal, and that something sure looks like Hunga Tonga. Maybe there's nothing in the models to account for that amount of water vapor in the upper stratosphere, or there's no data to account for it.

Incredible video of US 2 at Stevens Pass earlier. Never seen anything like that. https://www.facebook.com/642048130/posts/pfbid02ev1wxCAcM52LueLYaDwCmGXj94f5GYjZguoH4w6pxWaTRRKC5341ac5575MNRnpJl/?mibextid=NnVzG8

Merry Christmas! Looks like based on your updated stats I missed some sub-freezing celebration! Bout time now we just gotta get you a foot of snow and a windstorm haha
-
I must've missed a model run somewhere lol

Indeed it is. 1st is blocked by 2 trees and now there's a residential structure fire off Reiter. It's pretty spicy in this neck of the woods. Just had a gust that easily topped 50mph too.

Unable to tell if it's snowing here. Winds won't stop. 40+mph almost all day. Currently 20°. Trees fallin' in my neighborhood blocking the roads and the power is flickering constantly.
-
Well the wind has finally slowed down from 40mph. It's 19° and the wind chill is incredibly cold. My wife says that this is hot dog grilling weather
-
I missed the happenings...any chance of a sub-freezing high for you still? I hope so, but I'm probably poking a sore wound
-
I thought it was supposed to be cold guys! My station is reading a balmy 18° C....no wait thats an F next to it, wonder what that means
-
I'll take what I can get. Can't believe I got warm tongued out of 6+"
-
Hmm...maybe getting in the east side of the CZ, wasn't expecting this 20221220_115018.mp4
-
Looks like this system was kind of a bust for me. Unless I get some CZ action my gains are limited to a couple inches. Was pegged to get 8" last night. Oh well, can't win em all
-
Finally it's snowing in Gold Bar again. East wind has done a decent job of keeping precip out since last night.
-
It's never been good with short term temps. Bread and butter for euro always seems to be big picture, 3-7 days out.
-
Warmed up to 34 here and never dropped lower than 29 last night. Still flurrying here, I'm sure that added precip kept the temps more stable than thought. Up to 3" and getting ready for tomorrow
