  1. 79* DP 70*.....sticky. The next 7-8 days will be dull and hot. 96* lows at 74*. However around the 20th they're forecasting a front that will bring us rain and a high of 90*. That may not sound like much to you, but in Texas it's a cool front and a harbinger of Fall.
  2. Amen Tom. We all enjoined and became a nation united to honor and serve Liberty that day. It's been a dificult 18 years for Americans, but we won't stand down just because the job is hard. Never Forget
  3. Heard from my froend in NS and she and her family are on a generator right now. Massive outages. That was on whale of a hurricane.
  4. Quick update as Dorian exits the world. Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island are experiencing very heavy flooding, wind damage, and mass power outages. I have a friend in NS and I haven't heard from her. Hope she and her family are ok. This storm just won't give it up.
  5. The science coming out of the solar studies over the next 10 years will be very interesting.
  6. 101* today. Low of 73*. Much too soon to see those cool afternoons. But they're on the way.
  7. I have a friend that lives in Nova Scotia and she’s hoping they don’t lose power or internet. Hard to say. Dorian will hit as a Cat 2 and exit as a 1. I hope to learn Monday how she is.
  8. Just read a story where many in the Bahamas were caught in the storm surge, homes destroyed and sharks moving into their communities. Now that's a nightmare. One man threw his 5 year old son on a roof to save him only to see him blown intothe surge on the other side. Thankfully he survived. Much of Grand bahamasis simply gone.
  9. I can only say that Atlanta is very different from the DFW area. We don't get the afternoon rains that Atlanta gets that turn the area into a sauna. I wouldn't live there either. Southern climate varies and the farther you go west, the more tolerable it is in terms of humidity. All coast lines are the same from Brownsvill, to Washington DC in the summer. I don't care for coastlines. I understand that you are not a fan at all about the south. We understand that down here. But we keep telling folks that want to leave theirareas north due to taxation, it's a trade. If they can't do it, stay where they are or find somewhere else. Many leave and natives are cool with that. Our state has grown by 35-40% It will change us in ways we do not like. Our culture is strong though outside of big cities. They won't change that.
  10. Lol. Well in that case avoid summer. Spring and fall are nice. Remember our fall is later. Many Texans consider the heat as population control but since taxes went up on both coasts, population in my county went up 40%! I’m told my county will be one of the 10 to determine the election. So guess we’ll see lots of Trump before vote time.
  11. This is Grand Bahamas Island after Dorian. The outline is the island before. At least half or more of the city is under water. This is not unlike the vanishing for Port Royal in the Carib. after an earthquake. This is a very real example of how the map of the world has changed over thousands of years.
  12. This is humbling. We’re so lucky to live where it’s much safer. Grand Bahama island is now 70% underwater. Storm Chaser Goes Silent - Feared Dead. You gotta check this out. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/a-storm-chaser-went-silent-as-dorian-hit-the-bahamas-he-re-emerged-with-a-harrowing-story/ar-AAGM1jQ
  13. Dorian is schizoid. Stalled, maybe 1 mph. Wandering like crazy fireworks on the 4th. With no forward speed, mets can't really forecast with confidence where that thing is going. One met said Hurricanes Harvey and Alison both sat on Houston for 5 days. One thing about weather, it will change. It's a matter of when.
  14. Dorian may be the worst in history. Different from Katrina in character. Dorian may scrape the eastern seaboard and damage more. But the slow path and wind speed is absolutely jaw dropping. If we're lucky, the steering winds will allow it to move out to sea. The High will move some, hopefully not to hit Bermuda, although the water isn't 87* there. Texas has another week of 95-99* dry days. Fall isn't here yet.
  15. Hurricane Hunter Planes found 175mph winds with gusts to 185 in Dorian. Moving very slow at 8 mph That's a Cat 5 on the Simpson Scale by any stretch. Looks like it may skirt the coast bu not cross onto land. The next turn is critical to what will happen. But that can be rough as it will remain over warm water longer and do its damage. When it hit that 87* water off the east coast of Fla. Dorian took a deep breath and exploded in its fury. EDIT: they just reported that Marsh Harbour, in the Bahamas is having 220mph winds! Imagine how that is scouring the land. I am fearful for all those people.
  16. Well, I'm ready for the weather to lighten up on us. It's been quite wearing on us all. Maybe if it gets cooler or cold, they'll stop shooting each other, eh?
  17. I think they'll regret it. Poor soil is poor soil. The ancient cultures spent all their energy placing nutrients into their soil to feed their community. Modern fertilizers may force crops, but think of how fertilizers will affect rivers. I don't know, it's a lousy idea.
  18. I think you'll see a lot more cold than us. Texas is far enough south to see the western influence hit us throughout our winters. Olka seems to enjoy colder weather thanks to the northern push. I think Texas will see mostly normal winter temps and perhaps a little more moisture. But I'm not getting my hopes up this year.
  19. According to forecasters the Southern Plains will be enjoying summer weather for another 7-10 days with a low likelihood of rain. Hurrah, more heat.
  20. Sierras may be a harassment, but let them harass those wrecking the Amazon. They'll do something useful for a change. To clear up my angry rap, these fires are not destroying the earth's oxygen. It is however trashing the air quality, and the, plants and ecosystem that provides habitat for beneficial and even undiscovered species, along with undiscovered medicinal plants and contains soil erosion. The soil is poor and the amazon and Congo are like a giant filter and Brazil and Africa are vaping like crazy. This is just gives stupid a whole new definition. They deserve being annoyed et nauseum by a group like Sierra. They can be useful for a change.
  21. It always amazes me how pros can look at the same thing and get polar opposite forecasts. Guess it’s no big deal as there’s rarely any repercussions.
  22. Dorian is taking a deep breath over 87* waters and she'll likely hit Cat 4 before landfall. The ugly part continues as steering winds may send the storm along the western Florida coast. The entire state will be impacted and we'll see how much it creeps along the east coast. Probably a lot of water to come after it drops to a TS.
  23. Its always interesting to see if the Farmers Almanac will hit on their long range forecast. I never put any real stock into it regarding Texas as our weather seems to have a mind of its own sometimes. Anyway, here's their winter forecast map for winter 2019-2020. https://www.farmersalmanac.com/extended-forecast
  24. Let's make this climate issue exponentially worse. What d'ya say ?? The "lungs of the world" are dying. Brazil and the Congo are on fire. Torched by an irresponsible and ignorant government official with absolutely no idea that the earth is a living thing and the rainforests are necessary. Brazil currently has 2.214 million square miles...miles! that is on fire. The Congo has 1.52 million square miles currently ablaze. The Amazon and Congo are considered to be the lungs of the world. This is equal to a person inhaling a carton of cigarettes per Day! Or worse. 20% of our oxygen is created in the Amazon. Burning at a record rate. The President of Brazil believes it creates land for farmers, so this man sets fires! He says the "damage is modest?" He's an idiot. Actually, he gives idiots a bad name. Air quality is so bad in São Paolo, that the skies went as dark and 10 pm at 4pm and it is 2050 miles away from the fires. Air quality is as bad as Beijing in areas, yet these morons can't figure out that destroying a sensitive natural resource is bad! ?? To make matters worse, the land once cleared is of very poor quality and takes a great deal of commercial fertilizer to get a crop out of it, then it poops out and is essentially dead ground. The fertilizer goes into the rivers and ruins the life in it and flows out into the the ocean. But hey, it's a modest change. This will destroy the air across the planet. And how long will it take to recover due to population growth IF they allow the forest to return? Where's The Sierra Club International when you need them? Where's the people screaming climate change? Where's common sense? I see this as a science minded person. I never wanted to get on a climate vigilante wagon, but look at what we're losing! WE'RE SCREWED !!
