Check out these analogs for the 8-14 day period. Quite a few preceded great winters.

This has been a bipolar year. The weather is moving into a cooler and wetter regime, but will it be a prolonged pattern change? I guess we'll find out shortly.

Got to love the trends this morning. It might start looking and feeling like fall in about a week.

A little snow enhancement zone

It was a 3rd year event. January was gorgeous.

I think the QBO was negative during that winter. 1975-76 seems to somewhat match this year, but the niña was stronger in 1975-76. There aren't many 3rd year niñas.

Definitely looks like fall

Yes, it was a nino. I remember 2000-01 having a ridge parked in and around the NW after January 1st. Couldn't get rid of that sucker. That year was a 3rd year niña. Anything can happen. It's still early.

I can't remember anything positive about that one. Late October was the high point of that winter season. It was sad really.

For what it's worth, the CPC seems bullish about our precipitation chances.

The EURO deluge would be welcomed by all. Nobody wants the fire season going into November. The GFS will come around.

I honestly didn't think this was possible. 1988, 1991, 2003, and 2014 be damned. Is it too late to plant an orange grove?

We've enjoyed our good friend Reggie McRidgerson way too often over the years. I can only tolerate so much fog.
