  1. Here's a random pic of a snowmobiling trip gone wrong. This was on a road next to the snopark near Santiam Pass. When we saw this, we knew we had made an error. Btw, the water was about 14-16" deep. We were in a big truck, thankfully.
  2. Yes, pretty much every year the snowpack absorbs plenty of rain. I've also seen large ponds form on top of the snow when it became fully saturated. Looks pretty cool actually, but it has ruined a couple of snowmobile outings.
  3. It depends on the season. High elevation rain that melts the snowpack is pretty much useless this time of year or really any part of meteorological winter, since the reservoirs will simply be emptied for flood control. In mid/late spring, it is fine because they are trying to refill the reservoirs.
  4. Don't make me post the koala copypasta again. Ducks have corkscrew penises.
  5. I like Rob, frogs, and deep snow. Fred, on the other hand, is probably Satan. I mean have you ever seen them both together at the same time? I think not.
  6. It's all about what you do with it. There's nothing wrong with 5 inches.
  7. High solar today. Sunny and warm. Pretty rare for mid-dec.
  8. I'm gonna need a link, graph, image, or at least a description without acronyms. And no squishy faces.
  9. Koalas are ******* horrible animals. They have one of the smallest brain to body ratios of any mammal, additionally - their brains are smooth. A brain is folded to increase the surface area for neurons. If you present a koala with leaves plucked from a branch, laid on a flat surface, the koala will not recognise it as food. They are too thick to adapt their feeding behaviour to cope with change. In a room full of potential food, they can literally starve to death. This is not the token of an animal that is winning at life. Speaking of stupidity and food, one of the likely reasons for their primitive brains is the fact that additionally to being poisonous, eucalyptus leaves (the only thing they eat) have almost no nutritional value. They can't afford the extra energy to think, they sleep more than 80% of their ******* lives. When they are awake all they do is eat, and occasionally scream like ******* satan. Because eucalyptus leaves hold such little nutritional value, koalas have to ferment the leaves in their guts for days on end. Unlike their brains, they have the largest hind gut to body ratio of any mammal. Many herbivorous mammals have adaptations to cope with harsh plant life taking its toll on their teeth, rodents for instance have teeth that never stop growing, some animals only have teeth on their lower jaw, grinding plant matter on bony plates in the tops of their mouths, others have enlarged molars that distribute the wear and break down plant matter more efficiently... Koalas are no exception, when their teeth erode down to nothing, they resolve the situation by starving to death, because they're ******* terrible animals. Being mammals, koalas raise their joeys on milk (admittedly, one of the lowest milk yields to body ratio... There's a trend here). When the young joey needs to transition from rich, nourishing substances like milk, to eucalyptus (a plant that seems to be making it abundantly clear that it doesn't want to be eaten), it finds it does not have the necessary gut flora to digest the leaves. To remedy this, the young joey begins nuzzling its mother's anus until she leaks a little diarrhoea (actually fecal pap, slightly less digested), which he then proceeds to slurp on. This partially digested plant matter gives him just what he needs to start developing his digestive system. Of course, he may not even have needed to bother nuzzling his mother. She may have been suffering from incontinence. Why? Because koalas are riddled with chlamydia. In some areas the infection rate is 80% or higher. This statistic isn't helped by the fact that one of the few other activities koalas will spend their precious energy on is rape. Despite being seasonal breeders, males seem to either not know or care, and will simply overpower a female regardless of whether she is ovulating. If she fights back, he may drag them both out of the tree, which brings us full circle back to the brain: Koalas have a higher than average quantity of cerebrospinal fluid in their brains. This is to protect their brains from injury... should they fall from a tree. An animal so thick it has its own little built in special ed helmet. I ******* hate them. Koalas are stupid, leaky, STI riddled sex offenders. But, hey. They look cute. If you ignore the terrifying snake eyes and terrifying feet.
  10. Will a mod please ban that ridiculous emoticon of the face squisher that Dewey always posts? Others have started posting it as well. Every time I see one, I have to kick a puppy. So far, there has been 3 deaths and 4 injured. Think of the puppies.
  11. And to TWL, what is your connection to Rutgers, I'm curious.
  12. I like you TWL, but there is no way a 12" snowfall was the 2nd best Eugene has ever seen.
  13. You are normally very good at providing stats from previous interesting weather events. I was hoping to see your contributions during this weather lull.
  14. I don't know about that. In the last 50 years, probably. There were some very good winters around 1916, 1917, 1918, 1936, 1949-50, and some others. I'm probably off on some of those years, just going from memory.
  15. Oh man, I'd love to see those. Eugene was still the bullseye until I get proven different.
  16. Hmm. Uploader is fukky. Here's another. Edit: Well I give up. The uploader is simply fucckked up beyond all recognition. One more try:
  17. Here are a couple of images I found from Feb 2014. This wasn't necessarily the peak of the event, but still kinda cool.
  18. Feb 2014 was an underrated event. The snow depth got to about 10" on the floor before the ZR occurred. We had almost .75" of ice on top of that, which really squished the snow down. I'll see if I can dig up a couple of pics.
  19. Lol. You really missed out. Since Salem missed, I'm guessing eugene did too.
  20. 96 was ridiculously bad. I was living in Portland at the time. We had three trees in the backyard topple over. Someone rang our doorbell and they said "sorry to bother you, but are you aware that one of your trees is blocking the road?".
  21. Since the models are duds at the moment, I have a question for the Sounders up there. Eugene experiences an ice storm about every 3 or 4 years and about once a decade we get a severe one with .75" or more thickness. Portland gets more than that thanks to the gorge. I don't recall hearing about many severe ice storms up there. Is freezing rain a rare event, or have I just missed hearing about them?
