We've been in our current heat spell for 18 days straight. 105F here again today, just like yesterday.

What about July 2006?
That one was really hot too.

This heat spell has lasted 11 days straight now. Still, July 2018 was far worse.

You should get double paned windows.
They are double paned, and even tinted.

No AC? Does your room face West?

AC is broken, I'm buying a new unit for my room this weekend. My room faces west and when the afternoon sun hits it, this room heats up like an oven.

this is dumb
Welcome to inland Southern Californian summers. Everything in my room is warm to the touch right now, it's 101.4 F in here. Most miserable time of the year.

It's very hot. Strong smell of smoke in the air is still here, day and night.
This time of the year is extremely miserable.

Very potent smell of smoke here this evening. Not sure where the fire is.

Fullerton only 75 F today, even with lots of sunshine. Hmmm.
Today was cooler here inland as well. Only 87F.

After a string of nights in the 60s, it suddenly dropped down to 54F this morning. Not very common for July.

You coastal folks don't understand how miserable summer is for us. And you wonder why we wish it was winter all the time
-
Only 93F today. Yesterday was 94F and the prior two days were 99F.

Quite clear and hot today, although it was hotter in recent days. Smoke starting to come from the north, I can already smell it here.

97F here today.

New month, new water year. June finished as the eighth consecutive cooler-than-average month for the majority of Southern California.
My signature is becoming too long.

Third night in a row with a low of 52F.

Reverse clearing happening this morning. Sky was clear when I woke up before sunrise; at sunrise the marine layer starting coming over the lower parts of the Santa Ana Mountains, and now late morning and the marine layer is hovering right over us and it's becoming less sunny.

Looked back in the recordbooks a bit to see if we'd come close to any records... We won't (turns out that this sort of coolness was actually pretty commonplace in the early 20th century), but I noticed that on 6/22/1919, the maximum temp in Riverside that day was 102*F (2nd highest on record) and the minimum temp was 46*F (T-2nd lowest on record). Guess marine layer wasn't a thing that year.
I noticed this as well when going through Riverside's archived weather data (which is admittedly incomplete/has significant data gaps) as well as that of more established stations like that of Downtown L.A. and San Diego. Much cooler, even during the summer, up through roughly the 1960s. Lake Elsinore shows some bizarre data from the early 20th century, lows in the 40s were not uncommon during the summer months and at least once dipped to 39F during one August, while remaining in the 90s or even triple-digits during the daytime. Could also have been inaccurate/unreliable measurements from the time or faulty observations, I don't know. But, Southern California was definitely much colder in the early 20th century indeed (and a bit drier too, interestingly).
I created these graphs (and dozens of others) a few years ago, showing daily temperatures for Riverside and Lake Elsinore for certain years. Note the very wide temperature ranges compared to the warmer, more recent late 20th century years. Data obtained from the NDCC archives.

Currently dawn and there are some mean-looking clouds to the east of here. Also quite humid at the moment with the temperature failing to drop below 72F overnight.
