  1. Just finished mowing the yard. Very thick and green. Only 75 but a dew of 72 makes it very uncomfortable. It is a great workout with T-shirt and hat completely soaked. Few storms overnight only amounted to .10” here but again just west and north got well over an inch. It will be interesting to see final precipitation stats for the northern 2/3 of Nebraska at the end of 2018. My guess is as in June 30 they would be significantly above average including their plentiful snow season. I am doing all right, but nothing like to the north. Weather is always fascinating.
  2. We had a low 60’s dew all day with a south wind, but in the last hour the wind had decreased and the dew has shot up to 75. Very muggy out there this evening.
  3. My brother just texted me from Kansas City ( he actually works in downtown KC) and lives in the western suburb of Shawnee KS, and said the heat index as of 4 PM was 113-115 degrees. If you have ever spent time in KC in the summer, this is not unheard of. It is a brutal heat. I can remember as a kid and young adult going to KC often for Royals games and going to Worlds of Fun amusement park and just being exhausted from this type of humidity.
  4. US drought monitor out today for Nebraska. Things are looking good for most of the state for now.
  5. Hopefully we are through the worst of it tomorrow. One local observation showed me at an 80 dew at 7:30 last night and when I went to bed it was still 86 degrees with a dew of 79 at 10:30 pm. We now sit at 80 with dew of 71 but a south breeze is bringing a little relief.
  6. Latest is temp of 89, dew of 78, heat index of 103. Yuck, yuck, and yuck.
  7. Sorry to keep posting, but I am not believing what I am seeing. Just updated, dew at 78. I think only one time in all my years of following weather here have I seen a higher dew, I saw an 80 dew years back. Not enjoying it, but always fascinated by the extremes of weather.
  8. Dew is up to 76 at 3 pm. I can only think of a handful of times that I have ever seen the dew point this high in my town of Central Nebraska. This is how the tropics felt on vacation but there was always a sea breeze. . Wind only 5 mph. Sorry you have to come back to this.
  9. Dew up to 75. Just did some yard work and my shirt is soaking wet. I know some people love it, but I couldn’t live someplace with this type of climate and humidity most of the year. I could live in New Mexico or Arizona long before Florida or Louisiana.
  10. Just checked our current observations at 11 AM, 80 degrees with a heat index of 86 and a dew of 74. We rarely get a dew that high in this part of Central Nebraska. As a weather forecaster says, “weather you can wear.” Give me fall please or I should head west.
  11. I am an assistant high school football coach and we are having our football camp this week. Going 7-9 AM let’s us beat the heat a little. However, with No wind and very high humidity, it got all of us working up a good sweat this morning, even the coaches.
  12. Rainy June across Nebraska. My location is 150-200% of normal.
  13. Looks like 3 hot and steamy days Wednesday- Friday. Nothing out of the ordinary around here for this time of year. The rains sure have made things green and the corn and soybeans are looking fabulous.
  14. Actually made it out there 2 times last summer. One time we went to Cheyenne for Frontier Days for the Luke Bryan concert. We actually wore jackets and sweatshirts. It felt awesome. I could definitely live in a mountain climate. The 2nd time we went up on Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. Hope to make it out again this summer before school starts in August. Tougher to go every place that I would like with 17 and 13 year old and their activities and work schedules.
  15. Strong line of storms on my doorstep. Sounds like heavy rain again. Going to get much hotter and drier in the next 2 weeks.
  16. One of the reasons many Nebraskans head west for vacations. Look at those low dews in Western Nebraska, Wyoming, and Colorado. I am only 4 1/2 hours from Denver. We try to head to the mountains once a summer. Refreshing air for sure.
  17. Could you send some out this way? Boy that sounds good.
  18. I had a quick 1/2” last evening. Forecast for Sunday into Monday is several more inches. We will take all we can get as the extended is for hot and humid for many days starting Tuesday. With the moisture in the ground and corn growing taller by the day, the dew point should be very uncomfortable. Imo, this will feel worse than the previous heat wave. Nothing out of the ordinary, however, as July is usually hot and humid around here.
  19. Out of the blue it is pouring rain here. Nice line of storms coming through. Wasn't forecasted here that I saw today.
  20. Temp has dropped to 60 degrees at 10 pm. We will drop into the 50’s tonight so we will open the windows and let some fresh air in. Nice. Feels like a September evening.
  21. Amazing what a rain can do. You can water all you want with sprinklers, but it just quite do the trick. Standing water at the ends of fields as I was just driving around. Our city lake is so high they are having to pump water out of it. Been awhile since I could say that.
  22. Local radio station says 3-6” is common in our county. My gauge is just short of 4”. I have seen reports from 3.54 to 3.90 in my town so I think my gauge is close.
  23. Just had the heaviest rain of the spring/summer come through. Looked like a hurricane. Will post rain totals in the morning, but radar estimates are 3-6” in the county right now, highest in the western part and rain continues. I average 25” of precipitation a year, this could possibly give us 20% of our yearly rainfall if we reach 5 inches here by morning. The unpredictability of weather is fascinating.
  24. My county, Phelps, has just been placed in a Flash Flood Warning until 3:30 AM. Not sure it is warranted for all locations. My house is a little over 2 inches as of 9:40 pm, but western parts of the county look like they are over 5” There is more rain coming, but with our dryness of late, it might mitigate some issues that might have occurred if the soil was already saturated imo.
