  1. Tom I am liking this set up for the plains. We will see if the gfs is onto something.
  2. Hopefully it can keep shifting east for all of Nebraska. Western Nebraska has done well this winter.
  3. Really like the look of the 12z nam for Nebraska. Local mets starting to mention it but are very conservative on estimates, that is kind of their m.o. If we can lay down a nice snow cover it should set the stage for the arctic air mass next week.
  4. Tom, what do you think about the 2nd storm on the 26th? 12Z Euro Puts a deep low pressure system over Eastern Kansas with tightly packed isobars in Nebraska and Kansas. Usually a perfect spot for a big storm for the plains then it heads up to the northeast.
  5. Boy I love the look of this map. Nebraska gets drilled. Almost want time to speed up so it doesn't disappear in future runs like has been the case so often this year.
  6. Glad KC got some snow. Going there tomorrow for Christmas with relatives. Still have hopes for post Christmas storm across the plains. 06Z GFS really paints a large area of snow from the Central Rockies through the Plains on the 26-27. Probably will be lots of model changing in the next week. Merry Christmas to all. Love coming to this site daily.
  7. Not liking the 12Z GFS run for Nebraska but the 12Z GFS par looks wonderful. Boy the runs change drastically daily. Should get very interesting in the next 2 weeks.
  8. Still some of my best memories. My father is now 74 and has had quadruple bypass so his riding days are over but he still loves snow even got out the snow blower yesterday. These memories are why I love winter so much. Riding all day then going home to a warm house with the smells of my mother's baking and hot chocolate to drink. My mother died in 1999 but my wife has the same type of baking skills.
  9. Tom, I am getting excited. Though a long ways out, those are the potential monsters that we tell stories about the roll through the plains up through the Midwest and Great Lakes. Been awhile since I have see a map like this. Will be on Christmas vacation so hopefully I can take pictures of the kids on top of large snow piles. Those are some of my most vivid memories as a kid. My dad used to have snowmobiles and there was rarely a winter that we didn't get alot of riding in. Those are maps that I would see on the local weather with a big L spinning. When our local weather guy said watch out for a developing storm in the Great Basin I knew the potential was there for a big one. Nostalgia.
  10. Tom, what I notice different than last year, is that the models want to keep the cold more over the plains than over the Great Lakes. That should bode well for storms that want to ride up from the southwest, plenty of cold air to work with as long as they are not supressed to far south.
  11. Could be a really interesting and snowy pattern in the next 2 weeks. Traveling to relatives in Kansas City for Christmas from Central Nebraska. Leaving on Friday the 19th and coming back on the 22nd. Hopefully snow before and after. It is a nice 5 hour 15 minute drive in good weather conditions but horrendously long during storms. I remember several times having to stop in Lincoln or York or even Kearney and get a hotel room on the way home as I-80 was closed or so much traffic was backed up for accidents it was safer to pull over. Safe travels to all over the holidays and think snow.
  12. Will get pictures after school. Checked this site during classes. No snow day here but many districts around us had 10 AM starts and several didn't have school, usually those in the hilly regions of the sandhills on in the canyons of southwest Nebraska.
  13. Tom, between 3 and 4 inches at my house in Holdrege. Snowing again with blowing. Looks like a winter wonderland outside. Sorry for those who haven't gotten any snow.
  14. Thunderstorm at my house in holdrege. Lightning strikes and thunder. Heavy rain and some very small hail. Amazing on December 14.
  15. Tom, just north of me. Need that rain/snow line to come south tonight. Mets. are still struggling at this point on the specific deformation zone and when the rain will change to sleet then to snow. Will be an interesting 24 hours.
  16. As I expected, Winter Storm Watches and Advisories being issued just west and northwest of Central Nebraska. Need the models to move things 50 miles SE and we will enjoy.
  17. If the 00z gfs would verify, most people on this site would be ecstatic. What a run. Haven't seen this coverage in several years. Keep your fingers crossed.
  18. 00z gfs clobbers Nebraska then moves to Iowa. 2 storms for Nebraska. Up through hour 138.
  19. Still like the pink over my house. Would love it to go negative tilt. Storm not being talked up very much around here. I think the mets think it will stay too warm for too long for accumulations. I would think some sort of advisory might be coming tomorrow if trends continue. Thanks again Tom.
  20. Have only had 1 storm in November here with about 3 inches of snow. Been a very slow start to the year. Usually have some piles of snow from previous storms, but not even that this year. The next 2 weeks should be interesting.
  21. Boy the GFS has bounced around with the highest totals. I keep saying, and local mets also, that it might be hours prior to the event until they know where the rain/snow line will be. We may total over 1 inch of rain here in Central Nebraska on Sunday before a change to freezing rain/sleet Sunday night, then change to snow into Monday. When and where that changeover occurs will determine heaviest snow totals. Should be a fun weekend of tracking.
  22. Wow. The GFS has really lost the storm for our area so hoping the Euro comes through. Those nice pinks are right in my neighborhood. I might start singing "White Christmas." Scratch that, I don't want to scare anyone. Tom I really appreciate the maps you post and your positive attitude even when it has been so quiet for awhile.
  23. Those look great for Nebraska. Let the weekend storm tracking begin.
  24. Loving the look of the Euro run for Nebraska folks. Looks like the classic bowling ball that we haven't seen in a long time. You are correct Tom, the pattern looks very active through Dec. Hopefully all can get in on one of these storms rolling through.
