  1. I noticed the 12z GFS cut my qpf in half for the Sat-Sun system. I expected as much. Backdoor blasts are rarely good snow producers in the Spokane-CdA area.
  2. I've experienced lows less than -20f a few times. The last time was in Jan 04. I was near Deer Park when they notched a low of -28f. Some cities nearby like Springdale were unofficialy less than -30f. Spokane had a low that morning of -22f, which was not a record for the date. In Dec 08 Spokane dropped to -18f.
  3. My brother and his wife lived in Chesaw for a couple of years back in the mid 1990s. They couldn't earn a decent living over there. So, they moved back to Western Wa. I know they still miss it. I remember the stars on a moonless night over in Chesaw. It was like they were in 3d. It was absolutely mesmorizing!
  4. Our best hope is before the front passes. Downslope NNE winds always kill our chances here.
  5. You see more awd and 4wd vehicles in the ditch around where I live. It's laughable.
  6. In late Dec 2010 we had a low bomb out over the Spokane-CdA area. It changed from rain to snow in the morning and dropped a healthy 11 inches by nightfall, where I lived at the time.
  7. My dream is to see a repeat of Jan 13, 1950. Lows that experience cyclogenesis over land are my favorite. Unfortunately, they aren't common in our region.
  8. I have a chance at some snow on New Years day. I'd say 2-4 inches. Once the front goes through winds veer NNE. It should quickly dry out after that.
  9. It will get cold early next week. That isn't the issue. I just wonder if it will be long lasting. I would feel better if there was a distinct SE ridge showing up in the models during the long term. I'm concerned about the cold event turning into a glancing blow with a ridge parked over us later on. I've seen it happen in past Januaries.
  10. We got to get the monkey off our back! I feel satisfied with all other months.
  11. 2011 yikes! I suppose it will be a battle of the northern and southern streams. It can go either way.
